Another acoustic clip from one of the best guitarists of all time. Besides his incredible talent and skill on the guitar, his songwriting is poetic, and beautiful. Enjoy.

He injured his finger on a handheld water pump when he was a young boy. He talked about it after a concert I attended about 15 years ago. His concerts are always amazing, and he is so personable and modest.

@@LEISTUDIO That is a non collaborated story. I'll admit Phil is very talented, and Jimi liked him, but he never said that. Here is how the rumors may have began. During an interview with Guitar Player magazine in 1968, Hendrix was asked about his thoughts on Keaggy, and he had high praise for the young guitarist. Hendrix said “He’s one of the few young guitarists that’s really got something going for him. ” He’s got a lot of feeling and a lot of soul.” Hendrix went on to say that he thought Keaggy had “a lot of potential” and was “definitely going places.” “I think he’s going to be one of the great guitarists, without a doubt,” Hendrix predicted. There are other guitarists that share this myth. There are also rumors of Jimi saying this about Rory Gallagher & Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top.

I had a guitar playing friend in college introduce to Phil's playing. Unlike many who are here, I'll admit I'm not a Christian. Still as a music fan, I have always found his guitar to be amazing. I've seen him twice, and each time he has humbly said "I'm really not that good, and there are plenty of guitarists better than me." He may not be a Clapton or Hendrix, but he sure has skill. I'd place him probably in the top 25 in the world. This classical piece, he wrote, is proof of his talent.

I remember when this album first came out and I was at an Amway meeting, didn't really care about the meeting, I was just playing your cassette of The Master and The Musician at my table, tryin to turn everyone on to your music! That was circa 1980! Wow! Loveya man!

I remember Phill playing this at Calvary Chapel in the early 1970s. It was then, and still is a deeply moving piece by a man that God has given an immense amount of talent. He was a sweet-natured man who had gone through tremendous loss over his life, including that of his baby. Still, there was his faith in God that sustained him, and his beautiful guitar to soothe him. Thank you for posting this video. I suggest you make a personal journey of ALL his music over the last 1/2 century...it will just get better and better.

Even though it's impossible to place artists in some kind of order based on how talented, or "good" they are, I would have to say Keaggy IS the most versatile and accomplished guitarist I've ever heard or seen. If you haven't seen him, you OWE it to yourself to do so. It's an absolutely amazing experience... The Olsen guitar he's using is like the one James Taylor uses and is made in Minnesota, I believe. Keaggy played at Paul McCartney's daughter's wedding....that's a good gig!

I've played for about 3 years, and as long as you can nail the finger picking and ignore some unnecessary (or more or less unhearable) notes, you can do it pretty easy with some practise. When or if you do succeed, try and play it with all those other notes in and it sounds great.
