I think Phil bypasses the brain when he plays. I believe he plays straight from the Heart. The Holy Spirit helps him in every way. Thanks be to God for such wondrous songs and musicianship.

I can only unhinge my jaw, shake my head in total amazement, and grope around for some superlatives that will come close to describing the genius of this man. And more than a lot of other extremely talented technical guitar players, the one thing that sets Phil Keaggy apart is, the JOY he puts into his music. He's having a much fun as WE are!

Hello everyone! Thank you for the kind words. This clip came from a school project at MTSU (Middle Tennessee State University). We were tasked with orchestrating a live concert with Phil and I directed and was one of many editors on the final DVD. Unfortunately, at this moment the DVD is only for the students, faculty, and Phil. I wish that Phil would distribute it because as you know he is an amazing musician. Again, thanks for watching and for the kind words.

been watching Phil back to the Glass Harp at the Agora, late 60s... he was amazing back then and never stopped growing. Sat in the front row a seat or two away, front row-center at what I think was the Allen Theater back in Cleveland as well; for Andres Segovia...my memory is fading but will always remember being in awe of Phil and considering giving up guitar but he pushed me to better

Your music means so much to me. But Im in that ocean of Heartbreak right now, cant get past it. I lost my best buddy. I wish I could meet you so my life would leap forward

So sorry for your loss. I can't imagine the pain you're feeling, but I can offer the lyrics to a song of Phil's that has helped me through immense loss: "When suffering restores us, burns away the empty shallowness, and softening the heart to be broken bread and poured out wine." Though we may not fully understand suffering on this side of eternity, we can take comfort in knowing that God is using every circumstance and every aching of our hearts to bring His will into fruition.

I am always totally amazed at your creativity, spontaneity, energy, passion... I love listening to him ever since the day a when working in the woods for a tree service in 1980 a coworker hung a cassette player on a limb and hit play to his What a Day tape! He has always been so kind and patient every time I brought another guitar to one of his concerts to sign. One recent time was in a North Hills church near Pittsburgh, PA. Roger Rummer and I picked Phil and Bernadette up at the airport. He played my hand made acoustic, from the Travis City Guitar Company, then graciously signed it. Even at 59 I was like a kid in a candy store all giddy inside. His music is amazing but your lyrics touch the soul. Blessings, Brian

I've seen phil in concert dozens of times since the 70s both with bands and without. His acoustic solo work with the looping makes it so he doesn't even need a band. You would think you would get bored listening to an acoustic guitar for two hours but not with Phil. He makes every song unique and mind blowing. Sometimes I cry listening to him and how the lord has used him so. He is truly one of the best ever because of his versatility and humbleness to boot. His drummer from glass harp is also very humble he asked me once how did I sound? I had to laugh. He's also one of the best rock drummers in the world asking an amateur compared to him how he sounded.

Phil's not as well known because 1) he's long been promoted primarily as a Christian artist, and 2) he's not just a singer of songs, but a phenomenal musician in an era when less and less music buyers appreciate such skills. Youth of today identify with singers, image, and lyric driven pop-schlock. Instrumentalist just don't get the attention they once commanded - and I do realize Phil is a good singer as well. Also, and I know this may sound controversial or sexist (not meant to be), but MOSTLY (yet certainly not by any means total), instrumentalists are more appreciated by men - especially when it comes to guitarists.
@johncummins66555 жыл бұрын
Never thought of that on instrumentalists but I think you might be right. I went to yoga last night and I'm the only male (dreadful), as usual. Now, the women all ooh and aww as Chicago, and a bunch of other junk bands are played that most males would not even consider bands. IF I ever get to run a Yoga class you can be assured there will be Keaggy songs in there, and other instrumentals.

I saw Phil play in Shreveport Louisiana at Byrd High School in the 80s. He passed the hat. I was a huge fan before then, and I have kept up with his work my entire life. But this work is completely phenomenal. Not many artists continue to not only be relevant but create fresh new work throughout their life time. Phil definitely gives credence to the old Hendrix urban legend accredited to him. I could go on and on you know. :)

Eddie Van Halen and Ted Nugent have both gone on record mentioning Phil as possibly the greatest guitarist in the world. Big words coming from BIG GUITARISTS.
@captivethoughts17457 жыл бұрын
You know, the person who is most annoyed by these "urban legends" is Phil. He'll flat out tell you that none of these artists, especially Jimmie Hendrix never said this. He doesn't play for the glory of men, he plays for the glory of God. And quite frankly, even if they did say it, Phil doesn't care. You just gotta know Phil to understand. Yes I have talked to him. Quiet, humble and very disarming.
@jonathankohns78486 жыл бұрын
The Nugent story is true, although what he said was "Whatever happened to Phil Keaggy? he could have saved the world with his guitar." While Phil does not reference what was said, he does refer to something being said. www.thedailytimes.com/entertainment/christian-guitar-virtuoso-phil-keaggy-lives-a-blessed-life/article_a80fb451-206c-538b-8bd1-2d9977300b5e.html

If men knew their wives like he knows his guitar, there would never be another divorce.
@therealeleusis9 жыл бұрын
If women gave back the beauty and melody the guitar does, then that might indeed be true but with statements like yours all you do is re-enforce the erring view that men are to serve and worship their wives no matter what treatment they receive in return. In other words and to propagate the furthered use of a wise saying " it takes two to tango my friend." Also just like there are quality made guitars, such as the one Phil is rocking in this video, not every woman is able to command the interest in them, or even deserve such interest, that superior quality instruments inspire. In other words, there are crappy guitars made for cheap to be offered to the masses for general consumption and there are beyond belief guitars made only for those who can afford them and who can tell that it has been crafted well and the work they put into learning that instrument will payoff in great songs and cause the owner happiness, bliss, and inspire them to push themselves beyond what even they themselves thought they could achieve. Find a woman that can do that and she'll command such interest in her as that guitar does to Phil.

@timstromer65138 жыл бұрын
+Timothy Wanjohi I guess I've seen millions for some true Christian stuff, but it seems Phil does not get enough promotion, or that he cares too much about it, which is cool. He's building up eternal rewards, and those are better anyway!
@timothywanjohi52488 жыл бұрын
Let me be honest with you. Christian is not saying Jesus Jesus Lord Lord. That is why I am saying it is a spiritual thing. A genuine believer in spirit cannot score a million views on anything. Phil is the best guitarist in the world. But because he is a spiritual man, the world cannot accept him, because the spirit of this world cannot accept him. Those that you know are not genuine believers. Otherwise, the spirit of this world would reject them too. Their declaring God God means nothing.
@timstromer65138 жыл бұрын
+Timothy Wanjohi There are millions of real Christians, Phil has just never had the exposure that even a Keith Green, 2nd Chapter of Acts, Casting Crowns etc has had, and it amazes me!
@timothywanjohi52488 жыл бұрын
Trust me, if there is anyone who has had exposure, it is Phil Keaggy. Take my word on it. The more genuine a believer you are, the lesser you will be loved by the world. And it should amaze you yes. But the reason I already gave. This is a spiritual thing. You can say you are saved, but if your spirit the world approves of, that should say a lot to you as a believer, and to you as a fan of music.
