This concert was the "genesis" of the Bucket List album I recorded with Phil Keaggy and Tony Levin. Tony and I joined Phil for a night of pure improv at a church in New Jersey. You'll hear snippets of familiar songs woven throughout the performance. This was the first time we met and first time we jammed, no rehearsing, just three guys making music.
We later jammed for hours in my basement studio, Jersville, and years later Phil put those jams together and The Bucket List was born.
Phil Keaggy- Guitar
Tony Levin- Bass, Chapman Stick
Jerry Marotta- Drums, Percussion
Recorded at Calvary Temple
Wayne, New Jersey
January 12, 2007

'tis nice to see Tony and Jerry playing together again. They were a great rhythm section of the early Peter Gabriel albums

This makes me happy on so many levels, these 3 gifted musicians improvising together. The jam around PG's "don't give up" was so good.

We have heard and now do agree, that little ole ' Keag-Meister ' did indeed ask the Spirit to 'Play Thru Me' and He did play thru him ! Listen to that album 'Play Thru Me' and the many other fab albums that this here little God gifted guitar player has managed to put forth over his entire lifetime ...

Also, I appreciate how PK can adapt to just about any type of accompaniment he is presented with. He is the guitarist's guitarist. Saw Tony with King Crimson in the 80]s with King Crimson and again in the 2010's Such a great bassist. Thank you all who posted this.

Instrumental music can expand beyond language barriers, as it is from God. I have seen Phil and Tony at several venues separate and wish I could have seen this one together. As a bass player I really appreciate this. But, more so, I am a follower of Jesus Christ and He is my Rock and my Strong Place. Ask me how I know.

Okay, so I was at this concert and I must sadly admit that I didn't know the bassist or drummer by name or sight, though I was familiar with their music via Peter Gabriel albums. Of course, I was amazed by the incredible virtuosity displayed--especially since I had thought it was going to be a "Phil only" concert with his looping machine. But a question for anyone else who was there too: Didn't Phil say something at the beginning like he had run into the other two guys at a GAS STATION and brought them to the concert? His comment was probably tongue-in-cheek, but how DID it actually come about that (as Jerry writes above) it "was the first time we met and first time we jammed"? Anyone know? Very curious now! :->

@@jerrymarottadrums thank you very much for the quick response. It looks like great travel kit. Hence the name, duh. Of course with any instrument it is who is behind it that makes it sound great and yours certainly did. Love the variety of techniques you were using . Was that a Garden Weasel.:) Only you Mr. Marotta would think of that. Still think Security is one of the best albums of all time and the musicianship was out of this world. Thanks again

All sounding great but they aren’t really attempting to play as a unit with the drummer He’s having to follow them for the most part. If that’s the intention, fine but Marrotta is own his own island here.
