I played this to a mate of mine fairly recently, who was a self proclaimed Phil Lynott fan... supposedly... Me (full of enthusiasm): "Oh man! I totally forgot Phil Lynott did this tune! Remember this one, dude?!" My 'mate' (grinning, voice dripping with ridicule): "God, yeah... Not exactly on top form around this time, was he? It's awful!" I was like; "What the FUCK?! Dude, what are you on about? This was great! It was wonderful that Phil wanted to try different styles and dip his toes into different genres. Great that he was up for being experimental!" So, yeah, I completely questioned my ex-friend's taste in music after that. Not that I ever listened to what he thought of music, bloody twat! Hmm, nasty picture in my minds' eye with those last two words! LOL! =oD XoD (My belief: Virtually every genre has at least SOMETHING to offer. Except that I just cannot get into Opera and/or sugary-sweet-kiddie-chart-pop! Hell, at 3 years old I was doing well with Musical Youth, I think!) (Yes, I know, he did it with the Ultravox guys. Gimme a break though, I was only 2 years old at the time, and 4 by the time I knew who it was! I was buying singles at 3 years old, well, getting mum to buy them for me. My 1st single being "Pass The Dutchie" by Musical Youth, purchased at Tesco in Hookwood, near Gatwick Airport. I recall being in the seat of the trolley, and holding the record and staring at the green coversleeve. And I still have it too! On a different note, my ex-'mate's' dad went to the Priory Clinic back then in the day, and one of his N.A. companions was... Phil Lynott! There was another rock star at the clinic around the same time, who also passed away shortly afterwards, though I forget who that was. I'll edit it in when I remember who... But anyways...)

This is the heavy, dark electronica I love. That cyborg menace of Attack, Attack reminds me of Rutger Hauer's famous monologue about "attack ships on fire on the shoulder of Orion" ..and that's the kind of imagery this brings to my imagination. It's ironic that both song and movie are so close to each other in terms of their creation.

This is, in my mind, an allusion to 'robots' or at least artificial intelligence becoming a threat to humanity .. even with Asimov's three laws of robotics they will see our behaviour as illogical and step in to protect us from ourselves. Even if this means eradication of an intelligent species who is blindly destroying their life-supporting environment. Hey-ho.

What Mad Quack wants to go and plague the Russian Federation airwaves with this..... We/They Will Arise We/They Will/Shall Control We/They Will Command We/They Will/Shall Patrol Attack, Attack,Attack,(repeated further 4/5 times), Is What We Lack.. So far Going... @robertneill3057: Actually it's about Japan and and their technology taking over, Phil devised the song during their tour of Japan in 1979. The video even features a lot electrical things made by the Japanese, such as the introduction of the Sony Walkman. Back then the Vocoder was used to create a psychedelic effect, now its just used to disguise the lack being able to sing. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yellow_Pearl_(song)

@@jane1975 Actually do know of this, but what a twist in the meaning should the lyrics be taken in a literal manner. A video post by dickymint shows Phil Lynott clenching his fist and towards the end he throws a spear with the tattered Japanese (Rising) Sun Flag through some dividing screens typical of a Japanese residence. There are various remixes, the second has a fart (best description) with the words 'We all must be aware of the Yellow Pearl' as an introduction.
