"Stand Or Fall"
Crying parents tell their children
If you survive, don't do as we did
A son exclaims there'll be nothing to do to
Her daughter says she'll be dead with you
While foreign affairs are screwing us rotten
Line morale has hit rock bottom
Dying embers stand forgotten
Talks of peace were being trodden
Stand or fall
State your peace tonight
Stand or fall
State your peace tonight
Is this the value of our existence
Should we proclaim with such persistence
Our destiny relies on conscience
Red or blue, what's the difference
Stand or fall
State your peace tonight
Stand or fall
State your peace tonight
It's the euro theatre
It's the euro theatre
It's the euro theatre
An empty face reflects extinction
Ugly scars divide the nation
Desecrate the population
There will be no exaltation
Stand or fall
State your peace tonight
Stand or fall
State your peace tonight
It's the euro theatre
It's the euro theatre
It's the euro theatre
Stand or fall
Stand or fall
Stand or fall
Stand or fall
Stand or fall
Stand or fall

I remember watching The Fixx videos on MTV in the 80s. Its amazing how much great music was released in the 80s. I'm so thankful I was young in the 80s and got to enjoy all this great music on MTV. Thankfully KZfaq was invented so I can still hear and watch those great music videos.

@@JaxonSmithers I am about 5 years younger than you. I'd spend hours watching MTV. The imagery of many of these videos was mystical. These artists created something that really made you use your imagination to figure out the storylines. That's something sorely missing in today's world.

You know a song is powerfully written when it is able to embody the circumstances and sentiments of people within a society with such accuracy that the lyrics themselves could be applied just as easily to the sociopolitical issues about 36 years later. Epic poetry.

I bought this album, Shuttered Room I think it was called when it first came out. Absolutely great debut. There were alot of new wavish type bands out around that time but there was something about the Fixx that was above and beyond alot of others. Although you don't hear them that much on the radio anymore, you do once in a while and they've stood the test of time better then alot of their contemporaries from that time. Good music and lyrics. Perhaps reminiscent of U2 but with more of a pop sense. Not as political, but they did have something to say about current issues in Europe, at least on their early stuff.

@whyiotter
@whyiotter 4 жыл бұрын
Zimriel is right. I’m grateful that President Reagan fought to end the Cold War and tear down the Berlin Wall, but it didn’t happen until the end of his second term. From 1981-88, great songs were being written all over the world, but especially in Europe (99 Luftballons by Nena, Is There Something I Should Know? by Duran Duran {which included the great line “You’re about as easy as a nuclear war”}, and many more) about the fear of a nuclear conflict breaking out between the U.S. and the U.S.S.R. Also, a lot of people were suffering because of recessions and high unemployment, especially in the U.K. under Margaret Thatcher. It led to British bands making great timeless punk and pop and new wave and New Romantic music. The Fixx really honed in on the issues of the day and made music filled with angst and disturbing images that still resonate today. And I think, like Midnight Oil in Australia, they didn’t necessarily aim for hits, but the songs became hits all the same because they sounded great and made a statement too. So you’re both right, but in different ways. And I just saw them live in 2017 and they still sound great, which cannot be said about every 80s band!
@EricaFlipped
@EricaFlipped Жыл бұрын
@@whyiotter exactly. Everyone likes to act like Reagan was so great as a president when in reality he was terrible. He is literally the reason why the US is where it is today (poverty-stricken, the ever increasing wage gap, the ending of the middle class family, homelessness running rampant, mental illness going untreated for many, etc etc). There’s a reason why “reaganomics” is a term. It seems like only the New Wave kids were aware of how damaging his presidency would be. Several New Wave band wrote at least one song that criticized him in some way (The Psychedelic Furs wrote several). To get more on track, however, he is the reason so many great songs were written in the 80s.

Love this tune. I noticed a lot of music from the eighties had a "seriousness" to it, like this song, but totally lacking in most of today's music!

Saw them mid 2k's in a park Virginia Highland Fest Atlanta Ga. Missed them during the 80's. Friends and I had a blast. The band appreciated it since at one time they were playing arenas.

I loved these guys in the 80s, bought all their CDs, then time passes and in 2012 we wanted to move, left northern MN and came to check out Bend, OR and heard about a free concert along the river, attended and it was....The FIXX for 2 hrs!! Made the move decision sooooo easy!

I was 17 when this came out. Now more than ever this song is relevant to the United States and those of us that served proudly in the military. I fear all we protected is lost on the generations behind us....

Thank you for serving my friend….. and I pray for all those who paid the ultimate price for our country. It’s a shame all of your sacrifices seem to have been in vain with the path our country has taken. God bless you.

Saw them at the Malibu Inn about only 10 yrs. ago as I never caught them in their heyday; lotta bands I missed in the '70's, '80's & caught up w/ later, some were still smokin' hot & had some or all of the original members, these guys had the singer & 1 or 2 of the original guys but they were really, really good, singer took care of himself, voice was still all the way there, great show ! Always loved the Fixx !
