Phil Stead's D&RGW San Juan ON3 layout

Visit to Phil Stead's fantastic On3 layout where the big K class engines run on freights and passenger trains in 1949. Phil has a real 4% ruling grade out of Chama and all the structures on the line modeling all the way to Alamosa. Check out some video and stills of his great layout. Subscribe to my page.

Think I would paint valance face blue also so it blends in. Nice layout. Great job on painting.

Long trestle is Lobato bridge and it is scratchbuilt. I like a light tan neutral fascia.

Joe those are called telltales they were to warn a crew member on the car top that a tunnel or bridge was coming. Crews went over top to turn up hand brakes. Not exactly safe but a colorful part of history.

What's the purpose of that wire arch before the tunnels? I've seen them in movies but I don't know its purpose.

It looks indeed a great layout. Pity that the "backdrops" are not in harmony and quality level as the scenery. The rocks are very well done and look realistic. Thanks for sharing!

Not sure on Aspens but most guys use Supertree material and flocking.
