Guthrie Govan joins Phil-X & The Drills for a little jam at The Boileroom in Guildford as part of the Dorje/Drills 'Double D Tour'.
The song is 'Superstition' by Stevie Wonder for those asking in the comments. ;)

Even Guthrie had problems with the gear he reacted very professional and made a solo on superstition that will be perpetuated in the history book of guitarsolos.

That Guthrie guy is a total beast. Really he must be a true worldwide exception in the guitarists' realm regarding knowledge and versatility. Phil X is wild too, of course. More of a rock n' roll guy, super picking hand, exceptional energy and attitude. Both guys have built an image of dignity and deserve respect. I wish their work was more recognized..

I remember seeing Guthrie at the soundcheck whilst waiting to meet the guys, but I didn't expect him to play, so I was creaming with excitement. Best VIP gig I've ever been to by far.

So glad I was at the Boiler Room to see this show. When the drills were getting set-up, I noticed Guthrie was stood behind me (as were Lee Anderton and his Wife) and was lucky enough to chat briefly with Guthrie and get a handshake. He's an incredibly down to earth guy and was an honour to meet him.

I love how the singer goes to take pictures and videos of Guthrie. He just seems so genuinely excited to be on stage with him, seems like a really cool guy, and of course GG is a monster player.

ah come on - very few people are. Music isn't a competition for god sake. Its about passion, feeling, individuality. A lot of my favourite guitar players aren't that technical but they have feel. I fail to see the need to rate everyone against other people. its pointless. Who knows in the future. we might have guitar playing robots who can play millions of notes a minute, can play every style known to man and never make a mistake. I dread that day. KZfaq is bad enough as it is already.

both of these guys are so high up in the stratosphere you can't tell which one is best they're both amazing. they both have completely different games at basically the same level imo. amazing musicians and players. nothing but respect.

theonlyredspecial Exactly. And there probably already are programs that 'learn' and then 'play' their 'own' solos. But it's as impressive as watching robots compete in an Olympic Games. Probably not as impressive as that actually .

While Guthrie had technical problems,Loved how their handle this songs like it just a sound check...kudos to drummer for not stop playing and Guthrie so genius playing that guitar lick while singers assist him..really fun gigs lucky to whoever been there great video and really nice photoshoot also

Guthrie is the nicest dude. had the pleasure of meeting him at Freak Guitar Camp 2010 and he was sooo down to earth and humble, it was almost a bit difficult to talk to him. =)

I have known Phil since back before Triumph and open jams on the Danforth, and I can attest, that he is one of the most genuine people you will ever meet .... if you are so lucky to do so. (BTW ..... this is Kathryn's daddy Paul posting this ...)
