Phil Galfond analyzes how Tom Dwan’s WILD image enables his best plays, and whether his high stakes opponents can ever fold, in today's live poker breakdown!
❗️💰 How to Destroy PKO Tournaments ➡️ galfond.link/KO-Everyone
In today’s duo high stakes poker highlight analyzed by Phil Galfond we have two huge all-in pots featuring some legendary high stakes poker players.
In crazy high stakes poker hand #1 we have: Tom Dwan with Aces vs Antonio Esfandiari’s Kings and Daniel Negreanu’s Queens during the Poker After Dark $100k Cash Game.
Also seated at the table were Jean-Robert Bellande, Lauren Roberts, Bill Klein, Doyle Brunson, Andrew Robl, and Matt Kirk!
In huge high stakes poker hand #2 we have Tom Dwan with Queens trapping Jean-Robert Bellande’s (JRB) Ace King and a surprise Lynne-Ji with Queen Ten suited on High Stakes Poker Season 8.
They were joined by Rick Solomon, Brynn Kenney, Brandon Steven, and Nick Petrangelo.
Phil Galfond dives into these very entertaining high stakes hands to answer an important question - should Tom Dwan’s opponents find the fold vs his wild image in these huge preflop poker pots or did his wild image enable the best moments he could hope for?

Huge fan of poker.. If it has been televised or streamed, I've seen it.. I'm 44 year old man!.. I had to go from watching stuff like WSOP & "High stakes" to the likes of Loose cannon & Shark Tank.. Not a bad shows if you want to laugh.. But too sudo-reality tv for me.. Vlogs and livestreams have changed the whole landscape.. I pay attention to very few. Literally The HCL, The Lodge live, and Brad's vlogs.. Because if you don't love that guy, you need serious help! 😅... Point being!.. I'm an asshole, and very particular/snobish about watching content. And also a a huge fan of your playing, content etc!.. Except that one/first time on High Stakes! ;P .. And love how you put you vids together.. Thanks man!👍✌

I'm very happy about the scoop on 3 boards, if I knew I was running it 3 times it makes queens a much easier call because you know you are most likely flipping an against opponents range which so much AK that also blocks the hands you are dead against (and likely to win one flip)

QQ can definitely get away when they are 600+ bbs deep and the stacks go in pre. KK vs Dwan is tough but best case scenario Tom has AKs, almost certainly not JJ or QQ. Most likely Tom has KK or AA if he is jamming 600bbs in pre. hes crazy, but hes also smart and if he gets out of line its usually because hes sniffed something out. But yea its the classic cooler AA vs KK, sometimes the moneys just gotta get in.
@billj4525
@billj4525 3 ай бұрын
@@smackinmatt I think he should have folded the queens originally like Phil said. I don't think his implied odds were good enough to set mine there, but it was close. KK was tough, but I really think that could have been folded, although I'm not going to fault him for the call. I folded KK once in my life playing no limit holdem, and I happened to be right. The guy showed me the AA. It was pretty similar to this situation from what I can remember.
@abadhyamalhotra4255

I know that QQ probably can go either way here, where it calls a little more often as we saw with Dwan. What would Dwan do if instead of QQ, he has Suited AK ? Would that also mix up calling and folding, where more often its a fold and a call only sometimes ? (The other way round to QQ), since QQ can be ahead of JJ and has more equity vs AK, whereas Suited AK is behind every hand statiscally that JRB shoves barring AK itself

9:52 Hi Phil. I think that the 3bet by JRB was small and I don't think he 3bets that small OOP with aces. Your thoughts? Does JRB raise small and make the comment that he makes "let's sweeten the pot a little bit." with aces? Or kings even? No I don't think so. I think his raise preflop is a give away to Tom that QQ is the best hand preflop like almost always.
@errkuhlee
@errkuhlee 3 ай бұрын
I remember watching this hand when the HSP episode came out. JRB's sizing was too small, I don't really understand what he was trying to accomplish (unless he anticipated another player to spaz jam as Lynne did). Obviously, the more standard play here is to squeeze with a much larger sizing so you don't have to play AKcc OOP against several opponents (a couple of whom have less defined ranges than the average player = less visibility on what a "safe board" would be). Phil, would love to hear your opinion on this as well as JRB's "squeeze" is the most interesting part of that hand.

I made a 600 BB call with pocket Queens a couple days ago and they guy had JJ. Situation was a little different though. There was a 10$ straddle and Villain A, an action player, Opened to $50, he was 2k effective, and I just flat called so I guess the strength of my hand was disguised. Villain B goes all in for around $380. It gets back to Villain A and he seems to think about just calling (what I wanted) and then decided to shove for $2000. I didn't like this but felt like it could have been a squeeze play to isolate. I was still obviously very concerned he may have AA or KK. so I begrudgingly made the call after a little deliberation. Villain A shows JJ, Villain B shows KK, putting me a pretty good spot to lose $400 but win a $1600 side pot. I flopped three of a kind and rivered a boat.

Missed the straddle in hand 1 I believe? You mention we are 600bb deep but unless the graphic is wrong it says 800 to call for Daniel making 300k about 375bbs. Still quite deep and I don't think it changes the analysis much, that is probably still over the threshold where Dwan could jam KK for value.

couple of things i don't think were mentioned : 1. on the first hand, it starts out with Negreanu '3-betting' to $3,500...did we miss who opened first ? if QQ wasn't the first raise, it makes a huge difference vs it being the first raise on the button, but regardless, it's something worth clarifying 2. on the second hand, after it goes raise to 4k and the rest call, JRB only squeezes to 11k...that's definitely 'non-standard' and simply acts as a 'pot sweetener' as he even said out loud when he did it...that's never getting anybody to fold and almost surely played into the dynamics of Lynne shoving with Q10 and possibly Tom calling JRB's allin as well...just an important detail that wasn't talked about that i think probably played a part in the decision making processes for this hand

I think you can discount at least some combos of AA from JRB due to the SNAP re-jam. Does he really turbo re-jam w AA? Idk, I’ve only played with him for like an hour in my entire life and it was years ago, so no real reads, but in general I think it’s fair to at least discount a couple combos. I believe that makes it a call especially with Tom’s image and how he played it, her overflat, etc. I think JRB has JJ+ AK+ minus a cpl AA combos, and I think she’s way more likely to have a hand like TT or JJ than better.

You can discount all combos of AA from JRB based on his sizing preflop of 11k after a 4k open and several callers. And his comment about "sweetening the pot". That's a comment made from a speculative hand.

@@richcheckmaker9789 His small 3-bet doesn't insinuate AK any more so than having AA or KK. 11k is ridiculously small regardless of his actual holding. The only logical explanation is that he was trying to induce a 4-bet bluff so that there was room to 5-bet shove with fold equity.

I don't like the shove. I really don't think it was a reasonable play for her, it just makes very little sense.

If DNegs had AA in that spot he is 100% reraising jus like the rest of us would. How can you flat AA there and what hope they jus bluff off to you? And how does he suggest they both have AK there like really?

In that first hand When someone is 6bet ripping 500+ bb or whatever it is pre into multiple people you should definately be folding kings. Daniel doesn’t have to be capped here either he can flat his entire continuing range or atleast have some traps with aces so when tom shoves in this spot he’s just always gonna have the goods

How do you manage to make such an interesting hand so boring? Also not mentioning how horrendous bellandes squeeze sizing was is a must mention

Hey Phil, I know it makes for a good video & I think it is a well selected hand. However, I do think that Tom owing to Haralabos and Jetten isn’t highlighted enough compared to all the praise by content just like this & therefore risks to mislead new players. If not Doug or you will mention it to preserve the legendary status of Dwan, who will?
