Hey Erin, excellent work as usual! Just wanted to mention that whenever a manufacturer uses (P-P) or point to point in their x-max specifications, then divide it by half to get traditional one way linear excursion capability. True x-max spec (that you would use in any calculation or software I've ever seen) is from coil at rest, to displacement in the forward direction. Some manufacturers use the point to point spec, which includes linear coil displacement in the forward and rear direction, thus doubling the true specification one would use. For instance, Seas has always used P-P, while Scan Speak has always designated one way with a plus/minus in front of the number indicating that it's half of the point to point. Cheers, Jason aka Diypole

Hi Erin and thank’s a lot for all the work and efforts you put into your reviews. I’m an insatiable fan of yours as well as GR Research reviews and work. Trying to link subjective personal listening experience to undeniable and relevant datas. Would you consider adding to your analysis a spectral decay data sheet ? I think it’s a great add to go further deep into the analysis and trying to explain listening impressions. Great review for these speakers. Listening to non pure acoustic music at realistic sound volume should make adding a sub almost mandatory not only to compensate the inevitable lack of first octavas but to preserve the bass-mid woofer and lowering the distortion below 80-120hz. Sadly it would cost at least as much for a decent one. Greetings from France.

I think these would work great in my small space with a sub. Color-wise I'd go opt for high-gloss white. I like the shape of these puppies too. Seems like they were designed to avoid standing waves in a traditional box design.

In my limited experience, the LS60 just sounds like the LS50 Meta Wireless but with better bass. The 7k€ price is a little steep in my opinion. But the LS60 is truly fullrange, most speakers (even towers) aren’t until you reach about $5k as a price point. But I can’t shake the feeling that a pair of AudioVector QR3 (2600€) paired with a Cambridge Evo 150 (2400€) would get you there for 2k€ less. Granted, there’s no room correction EQ.

@@leodesforges161 How does it compare to the B1+ in soundstage depth, width and tonality? I have the ML 15i which is supposedly similar sounding to the B1+ which I drive with a small but well designed 50 watt integrated. The size is a better fit than the BMR which is huge. I listen in an approximately 300 sq ft room or so at low to moderate levels about 7-8 feet from the speakers. Thanks for sharing any opinions.

Just seeing this now@@nc3419 My room is small enough to make width tough to get much of. It's wall to wall, occasionally a bit outside the wall, but the walls are only 7.3' apart. But depth is great... but my room is really well treated. I think the room is more important than the speakers for imaging/soundstage. That said, depth is excellent. With good content, the soundstage is really impressive. Depth and small location cues are incredibly good.

3.2 ohm minimum per Phil website...might be a bit much for low powered amps regarding heat although your measurements are closer to 4 ohms? Reminds me of Dali Menuet speakers in that they were a bit difficult to drive but they fall under 3.5 ohms for a rather large part of the lower mids frequency range.

My opinion on the "diffraction theme" its not at all matter of boxe's edge but on crossover "damping" on second order of drivers and possibly on order difference between the drivers! I use alot of sb acoustics and i was on the way to use these ceramic ones on my setup! (I have the midwoofers already for my car .…..them or the carbons will go on!!!!)

Diffraction is the issue. It’s the relationship of the driver location wrt baffle size. You can model this very easily using free programs. 😎

@@ErinsAudioCorner first i have to say that I admire your job! I have some of knowledge in area of acoustics. And believe me i had similar situation on a try marching between m18 vifa with xt25 that i was going with big resistance on woofers second order (the capacitor in parallel with the woofer there!!!!) (second order electricaly that acoustically was some 8 to 9 db per octave) there i found lots of summing and missmatching that when i drop resistance off and made more stiffer slope gone away!

I have some speakers with very similar off axis performance and I'm not sure I really agree with the marketing on these, specifically this claims "crossed low enough to match the radiation pattern of the ceramic woofer, without resorting to a wave guide." It's pretty evident from even their own data that this isn't the case. What I see is the usual bloom between 3-6k which IMO looks like most typical two ways. I do have some waveguided speakers and they don't have the bloom at all. This is really the only aspect I have issue with in what I assume is an otherwise great sounding speaker.
@dennismurphy3802
@dennismurphy3802 Жыл бұрын
Fair enough. One of the reasons I submitted the Ceramics for a review was to see what the Klippel machine would show about directivity. If I understood Erin's comments correctly, a lot of the directivity error is coming from vertical rather than horizontal dispersion. It's very difficult to evaluate directivity thoroughly without the Klippel measurements. I've arranged to have future preliminary designs Klippel tested to get a complete picture of radiation patterns.

Ceramic is a moniker that SBA uses to describe a deep anodize on the front and rear of the aluminum cone. It stiffens the cone and linearizes the response, BUT, the breakup behavior is always negatively affected. These drivers are no exception. If one uses LR4 high-order crossovers in their designs (and accept the phase and time issues that this topology brings along), this may be a good tradeoff as the breakup will be much further down in level.
