Philip is the Sheik for the 'Turning' group at Colet House in West London. He studied with Dr Francis Roles for many years. In this interview he talks about the challenges he faced when he became seriously ill with lime disease.
'I had always previously thought that it was possible to change my attitude to any situation. With the illness, I realised that there was a stage where you couldn't. You could have a good attitude either side of the experience, but not while you were in it. This was when the illness was deep in the brain, there was no way out until it passed and you just had to allow the experience to be what it was and if it was darkness then it was just darkness.'
I was having to assimilate the idea of illness and suffering as a gift - what looked like suffering on the physical and psychological levels could often have a transforming effect on the deeper spiritual levels, that may not be apparent to the casual observer.'

Thanks a lot for this very interview ! I have been in chronic pain for 2 years and I can say that I would not be able to cope with it without my meditation practice. I sand all my love to Philip Jacobs and to Al Suffering Beings !

Thank you so much Philip. Your quiet tone and slow speed was so relaxing and I needed to hear what you had to say at this time. I was "barking" today and needed to hear your words about "barking" to reframed what is happening in my life at this moment. Your words on "Surrendering" needed to be heard too. Thank you.

Thank you so much Philip...listening to you express your experience helped me to feel less alone in my own experience of chronic pain. My life has changed in so many ways...much less "doing"...a whole lot of surrender. I loved the part about "safe-houses".

That was awesome. Thoroughly enjoyed Phillip and his perspectives on surrender and all the varied ways of his life unfolding to point us to something deeper in us. Love his quiet and slow energy. I have a feeling it only appears that way on the surface.

Thank you so much for this interview. So many comments resonate with my own experience of ill health. Surrender is the way to go. I was a very restless creature before I got ill --- illness pinned me down and taught me to be still --- at last! Philip helped me understand my daily struggle of shaking off the illness each day by finding good things to do. And then of course repeating the process the next day. He also helped me understand and accept my aloneness and be okay about it. Today has been a special day for me. Blessings and thanks again

Hello mikeyo1234 Thank you for your helpful comments. In answer to your questions: no I don`t think non-duality is for everyone, routes are as individual as individuals are. Each person finds the way that suits them. On the antibiotics issue: I come from an all medical family and I did do the long course of antibiotics, but they only work if you catch the disease in its early phase. So by the time I was diagnosed the antibiotics did not help. In my case traditional Chinese medicine was the treatment modality that helped most. Thanks again Philip (PS I love the laws of physics..)

At about 38:30 he says that others espouse their fundamentalist healing methodologies, and that one must tap in to one's own healing process. This is true. However it is at this time that most people find something that works for them (placebo, coincidence or otherwise) and they then assume that their way will work for everyone else! I've seen this in meditators, yogis, people with dietary fads. It shows extreme ignorance however most of these people never drop their ego or open their eyes wide enough to realise. Let's hope Phillip doesn't assume that nonduality is the way for everyone. I would doubt it as he seems really grounded to me.

Thank you. Enjoyed the reminder of "surrender" after one has taken action to one's ability. One wonders about the contribution of non-native EMF on brain function and general health deterioration of so many suffering from undiagnosed chronic illness who have limited resources to modify environment. This is a modern threat absent during the lives of Viktor Frankl and Rumi.

It is Love-Fire, the Soul acts that upon all we are doing, creating, destructing and thinking for a Divine purpose and we all have to be at peace by inward meditation on Soul, the Life-Entity, the God in all.
