Philippines “Needs More Than Protests" to Counter China Marcos Says, US Vows "Ironclad" Support

President Ferdinand Marcos said the Philippines needs to do more than protest Beijing's "illegal actions" in the South China Sea. "We have filed over a hundred protests, we have already made a similar number of demarches...We have to do more than just that," Marcos said. A top US official on June 27 told a Chinese counterpart that Washington's defence commitments to the Philippines were "ironclad". Meanwhile, China urged the US to stop supporting "provocations" by the Philippines, following Campbell’s concern about rising tensions in the South China Sea.

U$ have NO obligation to defend the dispute maritime areas. Document 578 of American Foreign Policy Basic Documents 1977-1980 is a 1979 letter to then-Philippine Minister of Foreign Affairs Carlos Romulo, in which Vance further clarified the U.S. legal interpretation of the MDT. He declared that armed attack under the MDT refers to external armed aggression against any part of Philippine metropolitan territory as defined by the 1898 Treaty of Paris between Spain and the U.S. and the 1900 Treaty of Washington between Great Britain and the U.S. (amended in 1930), as well as island territories in the Pacific that are under Philippine jurisdiction. Moreover, “armed attack on any Philippine armed forces, public vessels or aircraft in the Pacific would not have to occur within the Philippine metropolitan territory or island territory under its jurisdiction in the Pacific in order to come within the definition of Pacific Area in Article V.” Thus, armed attack on said forces or vessels taking place in undisputed maritime areas in the South China Sea would fall within the scope of the MDT.

However, due to Chinese ILLEGAL EXPANSIONIST DESIRES, the Philippines tactically allowed US Forces in its bases. Marcos must have complain to his daddy to take action behind the scene under the 1951 Mutual Defense Pact but daddy told him to back off and behave yourself. This is because his daddy wanted to defeat the Russian first in the Ukraine War and the solve the Gaza genocide first. Moreover the 1951 Mutual Defense Pact is only applicable if there is a landed invasion of the Philippines like what Japan did in the Second World War. His daddy must have told him that don't expect the US to go to war with a nuclear power like China over a piece of rock in the South China Sea which is outside the scope of the 1951 Mutual Defense Pact.
