Great video. I'll try this idea. So far I had no problems with veru. I live in Asia and humidity is always given. Veru is a diva, but what I observed if you don't give them that special attention, they'll just thrive(as long as your root system is well established). What I did is just leave it alone and not to give that special attention as others think that they have to give with their veru. It thrives and climb on it's own. But I have to admit, it's roots and leaves are a bit delicate (especially when you're repotting it!) It's a guarantee you'll see the effect on the leaves a day or two after.

I threw my 2-leaf verro cutting in a grow-out bin roughly three years ago; I had a really bad infestation of whitefly and root aphids, and went nuclear by tearing apart my vivariums, sanitizing everything with soap and bleach, and isolating survivors in their own bins to watch for re-infection. Other than the lack of vertical space, the verro is doing really well and filled the whole container. No drainage at all! So I completely believe you, and really want to try this method! I now do a 2-4 month isolation procedure on all new plants, but keeping this guy isolated is probably not the worst idea.

Amazing! They can certainly grow in ambient conditions so long as the moisture is there and ample. Honestly whatever we do that helps them thrive, we just gotta keep doing it!

this is so helpful, I just got a veru in a mystery box, and was panicing I was going to have to get a cloche or a humidty dome of some sort for it, as I don't usually pick plants that require higher humidty being from MN we also have low humidty in the winter. I will try these tips, and fingers crossed she survives!

Ooh, mawma, I knew you would have a video for me. I'm getting my Esmeralda soon. Meanwhile, I'm just sitting here flooding my metaphorical basement. Seriously though, thank you so much for explaining the biology behind these plants. How am I supposed to know what my plant wants without knowing about its natural environment and the reason they grow the way they do. Do you have any suggestions on really good places that explain these things succinctly the way you do? By the way, great writing! And great tone and inflection in your delivery. I wish I would have seen this a few days ago! I just imported a verru Amazon Sunset from Ecua and it was very droopy upon arrival. I soaked it in water for 24 hrs then put it in my aroid mix out of habit. If it doesn’t make a turn around quickly, I’ll try the no drainage route. I keep many of my anthuriums in no drainage thanks to one of your older videos but just didn’t think of it for this one for some reason. Thank you!

The way my verru is my easiest plant. Everyone says theyre so fussy mine didnt even wilt when i forgot to water it and it was bone dry for 2 months

This all pretty much affirms that I was on the right track with the care I was gonna give my verrucosum. No drainage = humidity to the plant + less risk of drying out, since it doesn't dry out it might also lessen the chance of spider mites because those pests are also attracted to dryness. Too bad my verru's already dead, it was only a seedling size and they're already pretty fussy when they're more grown, so that seedling just didn't like living :P I'll be giving it another chance when I can buy one for a good deal
