Jon Fishman's comment regarding this video (screenshot of :his original Facebook post) i.redd.it/vmt00zh9wi331.jpg
The following quote comes from Richard Wright (formerly Nancy) regarding this episode:
"The two details that weren't so accurate weren't even about me (Rael One-Cloud wasn't a Goddard student; I met her at a Rainbow Gathering in 1988; & evil Shirley Temple was a girl). Again, I'm honoured. This is probably the closest thing to a documentary that'll ever be made about me."

Absolutely love how amongst critical analysis there's this quick line: "Page summons aliens back to the mothership with his synths"

Wow! Amar, this "Anatomy of a Jam" series is by far the best analysis of improv music and music theory that I've ever come across. Great Job!!!

Late to the game on this, but amazing analysis of the jam and I loved the history of "Nancy." Totally fascinating person and I would have loved to have been in that small circle of friends at Goddard/UVM. What an unexpected history-changing little hangout. And notwithstanding the complex structural arrangements you lay out, it's crazy that these guys just do this off the top of their heads. IMO a combination of a lot of hard work and a touch of something spiritual or cosmic, or I don't know what. But I'm gonna keep coming to shows to see if I can get to the bottom of it. Love to all phans.

One minor thing I'd like to add to this (amazing!) analysis of Halley's is a mention of how Mike spends most of the song scat singing a bass line, while simultaneously playing a different melody on his bass guitar. This is no easy task, and is probably the main reason why it took the band months to learn how to play this song. :)

These videos are amazing. The background info of how the song came about is one thing, but the analysis of the jam, the theory, and what each band member is doing to propel the improvisation is so interesting. When I'm driving listening to Phish this is what I'm trying to listen for. Having it right up on the screen is so fun. I'm playing along and learning so much. Please make more of these videos.

God I think the Lydian mode is my favorite scale... It sounds like the cosmic universe is speaking when you hear it. Especially when you use synths like Page does here at the very end of the jam.... So good!
