There were a lot of links between Ween and the jam band scene. I wouldn't take anything Mickey says about modern music too seriously, anyway, since he's always basically said he's a classic rock guy, as well as Prince and P-funk. I mean, their bassist of 30 years, Dave Dreiwitz, is the bassist in JRAD. And Gener wrote an amazing tribute to Jerry when he died. Roses Are Free is really a bit of a hippie jam anyway, at least the words, although the music is pure Paisley Park. As for the Phish version, it's quite good, though it's not as loose as Ween have made it when they retooled it as a touring band.

Could you make a tutorial on how to play Society Red?

Incorrect sir. There is no 5 chord (E) anywhere in the song. After F#min is A with E in the bass. Actual chord is A7 with E in bass, which briefly takes you to a D maj scale. Nice job on transcribing, playing and presenting. But the devil is the detail.

Man, this was such a GREAT video----the production, the narration, the musical teaching, the cultural appreciation---I could go on. All I know is I'm glad I watched it. I'll keep it in my back pocket for friends who are open to learning more about what makes Phish so great.

I've been playing guitar for a couple years now. I've learned several scales and now I'm exploring the modes. However, the thing I struggle with the most is connecting all these dots that I now have in my head. I really think this series has helped me tremendously with that. I now have examples where I know exactly what they're doing, I can rewind, I can play along, and finally learn how all these things relate to one another, and how I can do it myself. Thank you
