Glad you’ve gotten to hear them! One of the biggest bands that very few people have actually heard. They’re hated and despised by many folks - often without actually listening to them play - which is fine, they’re not for everyone. But Phish fans are very inclusive to new listeners.

NOW we're talking! Maze rocks!! The "dress" is a Phish tradition- it started as a joke when the drummer found it in a second hand store or something, and put it on for a laugh- then decided he had to wear it on stage that night. Everyone loved it, and if he didn't wear it, everyone would ask where the dress was. So it became his trademark- part of what makes Phish so fun, funny, whimsical, and such a collection of "in jokes". That red/blue donut pattern is now a big identifying thing for fans- lots of merchandise exists with the red circles on blue.
@stevehildner5630
@stevehildner5630 3 жыл бұрын
It's true. He actually looks weird, to me, without the dress. We saw them one time and Fishman was wearing a black Izod shirt, tucked into, like, chino pants, and he looked ridiculous. Ironic he looks weird when he looks normal. Far as we fans are concerned, he could wear a pink tutu, the way he plays those tubs. Like a preying mantis.

It was Trey that insisted Jon wear it as often as possible. Jon thought is was a one off funny thing to do but the next night Trey was like, where’s the moo moo?? Jon didn’t think it was a thing but Trey had something else in mind haha. Those two have a special bond inside the amazing bond that is Phish. So grateful these guys came together🙏🏻

I love how you can still see Jamel have those "spacy" Phish moment we alll had while getting into the band. That moment where the jam has gone to space and its all a little dissonant, the head stops bobbing and youre completely lost so your brain pulls you back into task mode so you begin to think "did I put my laundry in the dryer"? " Is it true cows can go up stairs, but not down"? Then wham flash of light, the hook hits hard and ' oh shit, im at a show right now". love the content

To get that the few lyrics at the beginning set the foundation of the song and the music tells the rest of the story on a first listen is amazing. This dude gets it. I also appreciate that you can overlook mistakes during a jam because all they are is showing the band takes risks live. Great work man. Great commentary at the end.

Jamel a big thing to mention while watching Phish videos is the lights. There's actually a 5th member of the band and he runs the lights. His name is Chris Kuroda aka CK5. The biggest and most influential lighting director in the concert industry. He freestyles everything just like the band does and often dictates what the band decides to do and will adapt to what their playing to set a mood. In your last video, when the spot light hits Trey (guitar) he is indicating that he wants him to play by himself. At midnight every new years eve, he drops over 50k balloons on the whole crowd of Madison Square Garden and is one of the most amazing sights in the world (the sell out 4 nights in a row usually from 12/28-12/31 every year at msg). Everything about this band is intricate, thought out, and incredible. I could talk to you for days about all the stuff this band does. You're only cracking the surface. Hoping you really get to fully deep dive into them. I think the jam that completely captures everything about this band would be Ghost from 12/31/10. The end of tha jam makes people cry its so beautiful. I've tried and tried for you to see this, so if you have time I highly highly highly suggest checking it out. Ill include the link below. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/gJaDmZudtMqrgqs.html

I love seeing people getting into Phish from the late 90s! That was when I started listening to them and following them around the country. My second show was only 6 days before this. Makes me think that I found something very special in my youth, for which I am very grateful.

I met these guys when they first played in Arizona in the early 90's and they were all good people. They jammed and had fun like no others. the "pandemic" wont end till the government has full control over your life, your business and your home. Obey your leaders, question nothing and keep wearing your mask like good little sheep. Next year COVID will mutant into another strain, just like the common flu. Will you be staying home locked indoors next year as well? The funny thing is, Phish heads and the people alike...used to be against government intervention into your life. Funny how Trump derangement syndrome has cause people to do a complete 180 turn on their old values. I like that he really listens to the music. When I was in college, I got annoyed if I played a phish song for people, and they would say they didn't like it after 10 seconds. One of the things about phish is that it develops over the course of the music. So good job to our friend for showing great listening skills 👏 😊

@@DigDigDig It's true. Most people think Deadheads and Phishheads are of the same ilk...but, a lot of Deadheads HATE Phish. I manage to love them both...but lets face it, other then the fact that they are jambands, they are apples and oranges. The Dead is sorta psychedelic Americana, and though they definitley dabbled in alot of rock/blues/ type fusion, Phish are straight-up fusion cats. Overschooled? probably, but they don't sound mechanical. They reinvented "the pocket"
