baahahha they got the transformer on the wrong side it matters more to have an input transformer than an output transformer for microphone applications...

the thing to use it for is condensers with the mic preamps in the live room next to the mics and you send the transformed output down the wall

but dynamics and ribbons you want transformer input

I've used one of these for years and I love my ribbon mics and this baby has so much input gain, its insane. The innovation is you get it clean on the way in and add the colour on the output. Sounds counter intuitive, hence your comment. But try using it and its life changing and more easily controlled. Amazing pre. Huge beautiful DI sound as well and the Neve style EQ is so easy and muisical. I sold my Neves. Enjoy@@zvotaisvfi8678
