It's pretty much the kind of show that only a kid from the 70s could love. And the kid from the 70s inside me still loves it. Wish I could get the whole set on DVD. I'd give it pride of place in my fanzine.

For years i had this theme in my head and was sure it was P5. Used to watch it, like you on Sat mornings, as a kid in the early Seventies. The prog I'd long forgotten, but that theme was an earworm for forty years ...and then yt came along to confirm : )

Thanks so much for posting this - brings back childhood memories of 1970's Sheffield, watching Phoenix Five in crackle-o-vision because it was broadcast on Tyne Tees and we lived in the neighbouring Yorkshire TV region, but we were up on a hill so we could juuusstt get a signal. I watched this and the Adam West Batman in black and white through a sea of static. My mates all lived further down in the valley and couldn't get Tyne Tees, so they'd no idea what I was talking about when I mentioned it - I began to think I'd made it up until the Internet came round and I could look it up online. To this day I've never met anyone in the flesh who's also seen it.

I used to watch it. I think it was only ever broadcast in the UK on Tyne Tees TV.

Loved this in the early 1970s. Often shown during the school summer holidays. It was Star Trek and Lost in Space in one show, which naturally were also on our screens at the time.

Suddenly I'm 6 years old again, lying on the loungeroom floor watching the black and white TV.

CRIKEY! I remember watching this in B&W when the ABC (Australia) repeated it in the 6pm time slot back in the mid 1970s. Made on no budget and target at a young audience it wasn't that bad.

Guy sees spaceship model: "I can only imagine what it looks like inside!" Whelp, it kinda looks like the inside of a soup can, and about as roomy too.

They go into the sick bay. Bald guy in charge tells the Captain any illnesses encountered "will be up to your specialized medical knowledge!" In other words, there wasn't room in the budget to hire another actor to play a doctor. Besides, the cockpit is too freaking small to fit anyone else anyhoo!
