In this video, we are going to look at the new Mark II version of the YongNuo YN 42.5 f/1.7 lens and also compare it with the Panasonic Lumix 42.5 f/1.7.
And if you are wondering how to pronounce "YongNuo"? I got the official answer directly from YongNuo and i'll pronounce it to you.

Little fun fact about this review: When I filmed this review a week ago, I pronounced "Yongnuo" incorrectly. So after they told me the correct pronunciation, I decided to film it again so i can say their name correctly.

Wow. That's dedication. I'm impressed. Also, good job looking after reviews for the low end of the market. Expensive gear is exciting, but it's not as relevant to most of us.

so basically Panasonic has no excuse for pricing this lens the way that they do. Good job YongNuo for honest pricing.

The Panasonic is not only a better buy, it's a steal. And, it's sharp on Super 35 at 6K. No comparison. A gem.

@@333_studios If you use electronic stabilization, the crop should make it pretty close to covered.

I picked up a Yongnuo 42.5, as a low risk option. It's as good (or close to) as the non-pro grade lenses. I don't shoot video, so noise is not an issue. I found it sharp enough for my needs and will most likely buy the 25mm. The price though!

Joe is your the original or the mark Ii version? And yes I agree most of the downside are not a problem if you are only shooting photos

@@TheRealRichardWong I bought the Mark 2. I saw a mk 1 review by Rob Trek and it was less than flattering. Good to see the company took the critiques on-board and fixed them. I like the idea of the af/mf switch on the lens. It means I don't need to fiddle.around the menu. Focus peaking kicks in automatically, if set. I'm very pleased with it.

Good point about the focus switch. Yes I didn't have a chance to play with the original version but this new version works OK overall. The 25mm works slightly better than this one.

Focus tracking on Panasonic cameras isn't slow, it's "cinematic".

Thanks for watching! I can't wait to see what the gh6 can do, and maybe retest lens like this Yongnuo

Thanks for the review Richard. I think the Yongnuo is great value. As for autofocus I am sure you'll get a much better result on a GH5 II or GH6. I own a G85 and while I love the camera I have to admit that autofocus in video mode is definitely not one of its strengths with any lens.

I can get the Lumix for about $280 nowadays, you get OIS and dual-IS on Panasonic body, definitely worth it.

What about testing it against Olympus 45 mm f1.7? Panasonic auto focus for video is known to be very bad. So it would be much more interesting to test the two lenses on olympus EM1-III

Hi Erza, thanks for watching and suggestions! Unfortunately I don't have access to the Olympus gear at the moment, especially during a max level lockdown here that even all restaurants are closed.

one more question, does the panasonic lens image stabilization also works on cameras not from panasonic? so can it bring some stabilization to cheaper/older cameras?
@TheRealRichardWong

Yes it should work well, at least with Olympus /om system bodies

would you say that the yongnuo is a better fit with cheaper cameras because, it makes much less a percentage of the complete camera setup. and for panasonic 400$ do not have much weight when using a g9 or gh6.

I think it really depends on your preference. Some people like to spend less on body and more on the lenses. Some people like to spend the minimum amount of money no matter buying body or lens
