My favourite owl is the Tawny Owl, because it's the one I've seen the most. Also it's the only owl that ever visited my house, allowing me to look at it from my armchair.

Would love to have that sort of encounter with a Tawny Owl. The closest I have come is finding a owlet on the edge of a woodland path. It was a regular dog walking route but luckily I was able to get hold of the Wildlife Trust who managed the wood and they placed it in the lower branches of a nearby tree out of harms way.👍

Fantastic thank you. Great images. Short eared owl gets my vote. Am lucky enough to have a barn owl box in my barn. They had one brood of five that fledged earlier and a second brood of four that fledged recently. The second ones were born in an old stone building next to the barn, must have fancied a change. The adults usually roost in there first time they had young in there. Thanks again. All the best. 👍📷😎

Thanks Rob, your very lucky to be able to watch barn owls on a regular basis. They can be very hit and miss near me due largely to the fact that the Trent regularly floods these fields (all too regularly these days!) and kills off all the small mammals. It is around a year since the field I filmed on was under water but the mice and voles have repopulated really well, I was amazed how quickly! Thanks for watching🙏👍

congrats how fantastic My favourite owl if we're talking UK based is probably a tawny.... They epitomise the owl sound for me and i find it fascinating that they are the only owls to have the 'twit twoo' sound and that the sound is alternating calls between males and females. there also just very cute Outside the UK I'd have to say it's a tie between the burrowing owl again for cuteness factor and uniqueness in behaviours cand their call and Eurasian eagle owl purely for how beautifully majestic they look

Great video Scot! Asking which is your favourite Owl it's like asking pick your favourite child 🙂 but if pressed I would say the Long Eared Owl as more of challenge but I do spend many nights photographing Tawny Owls. Perhaps this will get more photographers to look closer to home as you know I have a pair of Long Eared Owls within 15 minutes walk for me which was only found through looking.

Thanks Patrick, I think we all have our own reasons why a certain species captivates us, as you say they are all pretty magnificent! I hope it does encourage more photographers to check out the local area before heading off to a known site, you just never know what's around, as you say until you look. All the best mate👍

Hi Scott I think we got off on the wrong foot with the whole deer 🦌 location thing so hopefully we can put that one behind us. I just watched this film and it was excellent!! 😮 loved it! I’m also into owls 🦉 although only recently this year as I’m usually obsessed with deer. I also only do videos but I’m increasingly getting interesting in photographing the owls. I have some in my area and have done films 🎥 if you get time take a look. I bought a canon 90d and 600 lens but couldn’t get to grips with it with the noise AF so I returned it. I’m thinking of getting another camera and using my rode external Mike. What camera 🎥 and lens do you use? I’m also in agreement over the short eared owls 🦉 they are awesome. Anyway sorry for the long message just wanted to say amazing film 👏👏👌✅🎥🦉

Hi, thanks for watching. Certainly no hard feeling on my part. A misunderstanding that doesn't happen if your talking face to face👍As to camera gear I use a sony a7r3 and a6400 paired with the Sony 200-600. Both quiet with very fast auto focus. I would also say that I am now able to shoot at very high iso by using dxo pureraw to process my images. I'm surprised you couldn't get on with the 90d. I shot with a 70d and 80d before switching to sony and loved them both. What lens did you use with it? Anyway. I will take a look at some of your videos over the next few days. A pleasure to speak to you again and thanks for your kind words about the video🙏👍

Wow the photos are stunning! Great slow motion video too! I'm just curious about your focus settings! I've had a lot of problems getting sharp photos late evening with the Sony a7r3! Photographing Great Horned owls! How are you keeping the focus on the birds and not on the background??? Hahahaha most of the time I am shooting with the a9 and it struggles from time to time in low light!!! Zone, wide????? I want to use my higher megapixel camera sometimes!!!! Hahahaha any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!! (Sony 200-600 lens)👍👍👍
@scotttilleyphotography
@scotttilleyphotography Жыл бұрын
Hello Marvin. I always have mine set to continuous auto focus and just the central block of focus points working. I find this makes it less likely for the auto focus to switch to the background and I don't need anything more for slow flying owls. Obviously nothings perfect but that works best for me. Thanks for watching 👍

@scotttilleyphotography

Hi Colm, can't argue with you the Shortie is a bit like the barnies Evil brother with those eyes😂 Have to say I shoot manually with auto ISO. As you can see with these images at 1/500 sec there is a little bit of motion blur on the wings which I like. With this lens I like to shoot at F7.1 if I can but wide open at f6.3 the lens is still sharp. The biggest game changer recently has been the use of DxO pure raw which enables me to transform images shot at 12800 ISO. Glad you enjoyed the video it was a superb evening👍
