I've been doing the same in savernake, Wiltshire. Grey dull skies etc, cold and windy, it doesn't matter. Shrooms are always a good subject.

1/50 at 52 mm handheld, elbows resting on legs but still awkward position - yet no motion blur, well done :-)

Hi Mike. I did try photographing some mushrooms very similar to this the other day, but the trouble was I couldn't quite get close enough to the ground because I was on my mobility scooter. Still not bad shots, but they would've been better had I been able to get closer to the ground. Bit frustrating but still, not to worry! I'll be putting them on my Instagram page if you want to have a look. Kind regards.

Good on you Ash. Using a longer lens - and / or getting the scooter in close and shooting from directly overhead might help... MB 👍

I love fungi. There is a huge beech tree that has fallen across the path in Canmore Woods near where I live and it was covered in various kinds of fungi etc. So, this week I bought a 2nd hand Nikkor 200mm macro and went back and they had disappeared, probably because of the slightly colder weather and heavy rain! Nice video Mike.👍

First photo is my favourite. Second one is not bad at all but the first photo angle is more appealing to my eyes. Very good video sir. Keep it up 👍 Thank you for sharing this.

You're not getting close enough for me to be sure, but they do look like Armillaria (Honey Fungus), and in that case you're absolutely right in calling them "bad boys", because they kill trees.

The mushrooms above ground are just fruit bodies. The fungus consists of a web of fine threads that grows underground all the time. Some mushrooms just live on dead plant material, and some even form a kind of symbiosis with trees. For instance the Death-cap and the Destroying Angel which will kill you if you eat them, are good for the trees. But some fungi are parasites. The Honey Fungus can live on dead plant material, but it tends to spread wildly and send treads up under the bark of living trees and slowly kill them. A Honey Fungus can sometimes spread over many square miles and thus become one of the largest living organisms in existence. The fruit bodies are edible if well cooked and not bad eating. In my family we used to eat a lot of them until we got fed up with them. However, you shouldn't eat them unless you're an expert, because there are very poisonous species that look a lot like them.
