I've been quietly watching your channel from the other side of the planet for awhile now. This video and the others you've made have been very valuable for me technically, so thank you. But I have to say what stands out most in this series is the intelligence, integrity and sincerity you bring to the subject. Its so refreshing to see someone with a broader perspective for the art form thats focused on the creative journey, not just the tools.

“every portrait that is painted with feeling is a portrait of the artist, not of the sitter. The sitter is merely the accident, the occasion. It is not he who is revealed by the painter; it is rather the painter who, on the coloured canvas, reveals himself.” ― Oscar Wilde, The Picture of Dorian Gray

Oh my, this is such an excellent video. It might be the caffeïne but I'm.... I'm raving about this. So good to see someone who understands the interpersonal dynamics of a portrait shot, and who can articulate this stuff in a way the rest of us understand. And not only that, you're doing it in a beautiful stylish way with wonderful photography at the end of it. Holy jesus, you've gained a fan! Thanks so much for this. PS: SO good to see a portrait photography video without those overpolished dead-eyes vanity shots as a presentation of what a portrait should look like

Hey Sean. The single most difficult thing in my life is taking the time to create and explore outside working hours, your ability to deliver such a rich piece of content, both informative and visually on your own, as a one man show is mind blowing. You push me to trash all excuses, go out and just do. For that i wish to thank you and I'm sure this brilliant channel will receive it's well earned publicity.

In a time when so many just press the button and shoot 5 frames a second and do a lot of post, its nice to see someone talk about what it is we should really be thinking about. The connection I try to find with a subject is the reason I am a portrait photographer. Thank you Sean. Keep up the good work!!

I'm awestruck Sean! I was hesitant to move to more professional oriented photography because of my personal inhibitions and general fear that I wont get the shots I want. But you have kickstarted me on a path I don't want to look back on. After having an experience with an entry level camera for 6 years and definitively surpassed it's limitations from every angle, I stumbled upon you strobe photography essentials video which quite literally captivated me to your style of explaining your process and gave me the impetus I needed to take this step forward in my photography. Thank you and I mean it, yours is the only channel ever that I have watched on KZfaq among thousands which made me grateful for this platform.

Well done, Sean. The emotional bond, friendship, common connection you find with a subject is vital to an authentic portrait. Nearly every client begins by posing in a standard way they believe is what the photographer wants. But the war in every portraits is about breaking down barriers and building the common bonds -- of finding the authentic personality in front of the camera.

I like your video not because you don't talk about all techniques like light setting and exposure triangle, though thats already the unique part of it. It feels like it's an art instead of a daily life activity. Great job man!

Man do I love your channel Sean. So much more than a photography channel, yet one that serves the art of photography so well. You gained a subscriber yesterday when I heard the stories behind the series on photographing your mentors. Photography is so much more than clever tricks with post processing and expensive gear. Having seen thousands of stunning photographs both portrait and landscape unfortunately, so few are memorable. This past weekend I caught and image of my niece, who I adore, that is "Her", I already cherish this above most others I have taken.
