Long time follower Sean! You really stand out in my mind as the most thoughtful and genuine photo tuber. I've just started my journey sharing my stuff on here and, in my own light hearted childish way, just shared my thoughts on ethics in photography. Thanks for being uniquely you man!

Never really thought of photography in this way... I play guitar and have noticed this with guitar... for example someone plays a very hard and technical piece and it's not popular except amongst other guitarists. Someone else plays something pretty simple but does it with the guitar behind their head and everyone loses their minds (even though playing guitar behind your head is barely any harder than doing it normally.

There was more to the picture on the right. Mother's eyes closed, she's maybe sleeping. The kids eyes are open. Energy levels of age differences. There's obvious opposites at play. But the distortion in the reflection looks like that's her other side of her when she's dreaming. And the dreaming element is supported by the reflection being connected to the top of her head. It's emerging from her subconscious. Dreams are almost attributed to being more prominent in kids. And I think they literally are. I don't think people have as many dreams when they're sleeping the older they get. But I'm also not surprised that the left photo got more likes because it is such an obvious photo. Photos of a pretty destination and women with pretty faces always dominate the likes numbers. And they are the simplest and easiest to do because they don't require any "seeing". Just convenience of placement. And you get the credit for the face being pretty.

Everyday I am on KZfaq looking for new photography information. It has been rare that something new has came along. I realize this I pretty much how I do shoot already, and now I know why. My camera is set to 5200k, and I don't even think about it anymore. I rarely adjust my WB in post. Thank you for your explanation. Keep these coming

Great tips! I love that you actually talked about shoes. I always wear comfortable shoes when I can, no matter when/where I shoot. I've even bought myself a foam pad for when I have to kneel a lot in my shoots. I love the part you mentioned about other photographers from other locations reaching out to say thank you for your take on their city. I'm going to Perdido Key in Florida this coming week and can't wait to do some random walks/shoots.

Thanks for all the tips. I find that I do pretty much the same, good shoes, carry light, be curious, use my visual eye, get lost & explore, don't care about my hit rate, etc. But I'm still learning and still got a long way to go.

I read Edward Curtis’s bio Shadow Catcher. I recommend this powerful read. I still have that book. Curtis risked everything to capture Native images. His work presented to the world Native, our lives, and our culture. He went on a holy journey for us. Sure his artistry was photography but he also wrote. His writing is poetic but engaging. Thank you for hitting on this topic.

Curtis broke sacred boundaries by taking pictures of ceremonial pictures. I still am reluctant to look at them. I’ll actually quickly flip pages with these images. Nevertheless, what commitment Curtis undertook. Amazing life work.

Sean - Your communication style is so good and healthy!!!!! When I watch a video and feel like I need to leave a comment I how I ask myself why ........ the process of clarifying my thoughts helps me understand what I learned, liked or need to understand better. I am a very enthusiastic amateur wildlife photographer (birds) who continues to work at learning by "watching" the best. People may wonder why a wildlife photographer would be watching a street photographer (?) I have learned so much from your perspective, your approach, how you view the world and your style. Your example of the two pictures and the "feedback" on instagram was fascinating. I am still not sure how or why it struck a nerve in me. Thank you for making me wrestling with ideas, concepts and new approaches. You have made me better!

Yeah, thanks for sharing those thoughts and insights Sean. Really appreciated. There's something about that second didn't get as much attention image that I really connected with. The shared exhaustion with a child feels. . . Thanks for noticing that moment and sharing the reality of life when it feels hard.

I used to work in the Food Photography, Martial Arts photography & Real Estate industries & found working for clients became really mentally exhausting, so I quit. I now do photography for me only. I share stuff on Instagram but don't do it for likes or follows or comparing to others. And now my mental health has hugely improved.

Wonderful. Ondrej you are a credit to your generation. Your images tell a story of human failings and successes without words needed. I watched this from a relatively safe and secure NZ and wish I had your courage and passion, when I was your age, to do similar. I think you have a successful and rewarding future in which ever path you eventually follow. But do take heed of your lovely wife. Behind every... well you probably know the rest. Enjoy your photography, your adventures, but take care.

Sean, you are one of my photography gurus. I have been taking developing and editing photographs for about 60 years and your thoughts capture many of my own conclusions that I have reached after these many years, but lack the eloquence to present them so clearly and thoughtfully as you did. I would, however, make one suggestion. While I realize it may be useful to put a label on a particular genre of photography for purposes of KZfaq, I think you are selling yourself short by doing so. Much of what you had to say is applicable to many other Forms or styles of photography and should be viewed by those who consider themselves landscape photographers, for example. After all, we all strive to create something approaching art in a visual medium, using a camera and photo editing. Our subjects may vary, but the core concepts of striving to create that art remain the same.

Firstly, thanks. Decent advice from someone who knows much more than me is good It’s interesting though, “dont’t worry about hit rate” is understandable and frankly a reality for people with my level but then I also see Matt Hart saying “don’t just spray the shots around” (not an accurate quote but close enough) so it seems it is in the eye of the beholder a bit here Next : “walk more” … or cycle much easier to get somewhere without losing connection
