thank you sheikh hamza, you took the words right out of my mouth. photography especially selfies is a disease of vanity and self-obsession. I was horrified to see a woman doing umrah while holding a selfie stick the entire time, making a video of herself! another girl in full makeup and jewelry was modeling in front of the Kaaba while her friend took her photo. this is their ibadah??! self-worship perhaps, they certainly weren't worshipping Allah in the haram. Complete madness.

I do agree with this lecture. Facebook can be really horrible. The open interaction that it facilitates can destroy people's minds, hearts, and even dignities. Posting a picture of ourselves is also confusing when it comes to the purpose: "what for?".

Sheikh Hamza Yusuf is absolutely correct on this issue, some people do not even observe the appropriate places anymore to take pictures. I was recently in a certain Mosque, i went to the Mosque to pray my Eid prayer and since it was warm, the Eid prayer and the Khutbah (Eid Lecture, Speech) was carried out outside the Mosque in the courtyard but when the prayer had ended, I and a couple other brothers went and sat inside the Mosque, then this really shocked me, right in front of our eyes, some brothers came in and started taking pictures inside the Mosque, making moves of poses etc etc. I and the brother next to me was so uncomfortable by the sight and I kept thinking, if the Prophet Mohammed pbuh was alive today, would he be pleased with this? Obviously not, when they had finished, I asked one of the brothers involved, is the Mosque really an appropriate place to take pictures? I got no answer.

I am with the sheikh in every point he sais. But the title confusses me. I love photography with nature and objects. It brought me in a mood of awareness and conciousness. I see the beauty and wisdom in Allahs creation. A good photo can touch your heart and make you think. There are moments i see the sky and think, ok, that cannot be captured and experienced as it is. And of course the reality can' t be captured at all. But for me it is a kind of worship to meditate about a moment captured on a picture. For me it is one of the most true arts. Facebook etc? NO WAY!

Shouldn't take knowledge from this misguided sufi or any sufi. They are calling people to the gates of jahannam (72 sects will go jahannam only 1 will go jannah). That one is those who FOLLOW the Companions of the prophet Muhammad may peace and blessings be upon him and sticks to his sunnah. Not upon kufr shirk and bid'ah. Follow the way of the Salaf us-Saalih meaning our righteous predecessors. They understood the quran and sunnah the best of way. Be very cautious and careful from whom you take your knowledge from.

One thing that is really bad as taking pictures is to say "stop taking pictures, and start experiencing life" and then say "I", and put oneself as an exemple of rightouness, and then again "I", and "I", and "I", so on.

Let me understand this correctly - you have a 6min+ audio of the Shaykh refuting images, pictures, and photographs. So the. you upload it to KZfaq as a video with a picture OF HIM on it the whole time? How contradicting! He would melt if he ever saw this. The hypocrisy and irony in this is too much.

you might be right but after the sickness of Orlando murders he went as far as saying that "normal" Islam would never tolerate homosexuality. Going back to his Pre Orlando lectures, i remember him saying that homosexuality is a disease and he quoted DSM ( Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders) as a reference. ( if i remember correctly then until 1991 homosexuality was classified as a psychological disease by DSM ).

All these fuckers can do is criticise people who are enjoying their lives. Everything is goddamn haraam. I could be mistaken, but I think this guy even criticised Sesame Street once. I know it was a Muslim cleric.
@aadilkader
@aadilkader 8 жыл бұрын
+BroodallyHonest I think you're missing the point brother ... he didn't say it's haraam. He acknowledges that there is a difference of opinion, and he thinks maybe the fatwa should be revisited, but he isn't saying it's haraam. He himself allows videos and photographs to be taken of himself. And he says he travelled with a photographer ... further indications that he doesn't consider it haraam. You say all they can do is criticise people who are enjoying their lives ... but I think his point is quite the opposite ... he's saying that to truly live life to the fullest and enjoy your life, you should be spending time with your child instead of photographing him at every opportunity, and walking among the trees instead of looking for good photo opportunities. His message is to live in the moment, and you'll have a richer life. There are non-Muslims who criticise our photograph-obsessed culture as well. Just because he is criticising our obsession with it, doesn't mean he thinks photographs should never be taken. And about Sesame Street ... lots of people criticise Sesame Street as well. Doesn't mean they think it's haraam. I understand your frustration, as there are definitely those people who declare everything haraam. (I once read a mufti who said it's completely haraam for women to jump on a trampoline, even if there were no men present, as it is undignified. Lmao!) But I think in this case your frustration is misdirected - I've found Sheikh Hamza to be one of the more balanced and moderate ulema I've followed.
