Photopills is the best app to help with the Planning and Locating the Milky Way in the Night Sky. Like the old American Express advert that said “Don’t Leave Home Without It”. Well! If you want to make you night photography as easy as possible then you Need Photopills with you as your sidekick.
This Photopills Tutorial shows you how easy it is to use Night AR to find the Milky Way and then use Planner to help you in planning future Milky Way Photography Outings by showing you where the Milky Way is going to be at any given time of the year.
Has a Nightscape Photographer, I use the Night AR function in PhotoPills religiously when driving around scouting out locations that may be suitable for photographing the Milky Way, and the Planner function if I’m unable to do a scouting trip to a location that I want to take Milky Way images from.

I live in northern hemisphere (Europe, Poland) and I can see Milky Ways core not entirely. Southern part of Scorpio constellation is submerged below horizon at its peak in the summer time. Best time to watch and photograph MW here is since end of aprill (before sunrise) and then since beginning of august (after sunset). End of may, july and june is not the best time, considering so called white nights, when the nightsky isn't totally dark. We don't have much time here then :D Thank You for good advice as always ;) greetings from other side of globe.

I'm baffled with night AR. What are the spots wizzing around the display for? I was hoping to point my phone at the pole star and see the ursa minor constellation. I can't recognise any constellations.

Apologies for the late reply Berny, I've just been very busy. The spots rotating over the center circle represent the direction that the stars are travelling across the sky.
