Here is my homework : 1- I have held down my love for him / Jack for 10 years because he treated me well . 2- You should hold back the secret about your boss if you don't want to be sacked . 3- You should hold in all your anger when your little girl makes a mistake. 4- Let's hold off buying the house until we save enough money .I don't want to be in debt! Take care ,my dear teacher!😄🌹♥️🎶🍓

I am an English teacher, even though I am not exactly English )) I love phrasal verbs, and for the past 20 years or so I have been using them in every day life as well as teaching them in class. I have also studied a Phrasal Verbs dictionary at least 4 times. And still find your lessons very useful and interesting, the examples are all clear and real. Enjoying your lessons and thanking you a lot. I also wish you to have more subscribers. You are doing a great job!

Sir ! I think hold back has the same meaning with hold in !?
@mapleleafesl6162
@mapleleafesl6162 3 жыл бұрын
In certain situations it could be similar, but definitely not always. 'She will be held back for another year' means she will not advance to the next grade. But we couldn't substitute that for 'hold in'.

Hi Andrew . Would you pleeeeeeeeease clearify this for me I have to HOLD BACK my anger for him for the sake of the family I have to HOLD IN my anger for him.. If both the phrase can be used interchangeably here or one is not correct Please reply Andrew
@mapleleafesl6162
@mapleleafesl6162 3 жыл бұрын
Great question. Those two expressions--hold back and hold in--basically mean the same thing in this context. 'Hold back', however, may sound like you still got angry but just not at the level that you could have whereas 'hold in' means to refrain from showing any anger and instead keep it inside. But, for the most part, they have the same meaning. Hope this helps.

Like I am in a very miserable situation and I say to myself How many days can I hold out in this situation (adjust or last) I think that in the 2nd situation appropriate would be to use, How many days can I hold up in this situation...right?!!!!

Maple Leaf ESL Hey! I now think that YOU are right. This channel is your own baby, and it seems you feel very much comfortable with whatever pace of watching/ liking/ subscribing and so on. I personally would like to see this channel at much more prominent position amidst English-teaching community (let’s call it so). But since it takes now between 3 and 5 days to add another hundred of subscribers, it night take very long to reach «our eternal goal” of 1 million...
