So far I've only bought two collector boxes, Kamigawa Neon. Which I cracked and it paid for itself (Thank you Boseiju). But that's not something that I can count on happening I just love kamigawa and got lucky to get what I spent in value lol. And the other box which I may not crack is Dominaria Remastered. Haven't decided if I'm ever going to open it up but otherwise I don't buy collector boxes lol.

Thanks friend for the video and advice i am a new player who started magic around 3 months ago the community and games are great and honestly the question of collectors booster packs been on my mind for a long while as the reason that got me going was the art but you're definitely right about what these boxes are worth where i live they cost 110-160$+ due to resellers and shipping oversees more than their asking price so yeah they definitely aren't worth it thanks for pointing that out in a video! really appreciate all that you do and hopefully you continue living wonderfully :>

Beware Hello fresh is a subscription service. They aren’t very forth-write with this information. I got the discount which is very much appreciated but today I was charged $90 for another delivery which I wasn’t expecting. They would not let me cancel it because it was too close to the delivery date. Buyer beware.

I don't know if you'll see this, but I want to say that these videos really help me! I have an addictive personality and am constantly controlling the urge to gamble. I used to open tons of packs and boxes of another tcg, and moved to mtg a few years ago. I started off by buying packs and boxes, but videos like these have really helped give me more reason to just buy singles. Every time I'm tempted to buy a box or a bunch of packs for fun, I think of all the 'dead' boxes you open as a reminder I'm more than likely gonna lose. I still open packs sometimes for fun, but I no longer open to gamble to get a card. Singles are ALWAYS the right choice!

@@Zen-rd9np Believe me, you're far better off without them! The last tcg I played didn't have easy access to singles in my area so I convinced myself boxes were easier than ordering from out of the city. I dropped probably 3k or more before finally realising what damage I was doing to myself. Luckily I was in a place where I didn't get financially hurt from it (though I sacrificed a lot of proper meals lol), but I'd be a lot better off if I hadn't. Always say no to boxes :')

I occasionally still buy a set booster box and I use them as self-rewards to help me maintain habits with my ADHD. When I remember to do the shit I need to do constistenly (I use one of those gamified habit apps to keep track), I get to open a couple. Beyond that, singles all the way.,

Dang, I'm still trying to wrap my head around the cards of Brothers War...and I still think there are around a dozen other recent sets I still missed. MTG is becoming so overwhelming and exhausting. I don't even want to try to build new decks anymore. I seriously can't wait for Sorcery - Contested Realm to come out.

the problem you have is not the extend and amount of cards. Just go to your collection. Look at what you own. Build with what you own and forget the rest. If you see anything interesting, take a note and well 🤷‍♂️. Your problem good sir is: You seem to think new cards make better decks and better decks are more fun. Thats not the case. Just have fun and forget the rest. Build something you like and thats it

Phyrexia AWBO is a pretty sweet set and has awesome alternate frames and such, but idk if the hype of it being the newest thing will live up to the lands we literally need to play the game with.

To be fair, the Fast Lands in ONE are a staple of competitive formats. But on the other hand you could also pull them as Expeditions in Zendikar Rising.

Ooooh okay. This is gonna be interesting. I got back into MTG around when Zendikar Rising came out, and adored it immensely. Like, legitimately great fun. And Phyrexia All Will be One and March of the machines killed so many of the characters I liked a lot IN Zendikar Rising. In fact it killed all of them. God what a battle.

@Helminth Combos I think the last time we had a set/block without a previously appearing character was way back in lorwyn block, if i'm correct. Since then, every set/block (besides adventures in the forgotten realms) has included at least one reoccurring character.

I believe what you're labeling as "oil foil" those are known as "step and compleat foil" ...the cards with the little phyrexian logos across them. Pretty sure only oil slick raised foil comes inside the Phyrexia Compleat Bundle

So a while back I made a cube for my playgroup, mostly ravnica and war of the spark with some kaladesh thrown in there. And now with this set having so many beautiful artifact or proliferate cards going for dirt cheap I am so excited to update and improve that cube 😄

This is the most content-y content my eyeholes have engaged with during this particular 24 hour content intake interval. As for which box will perform better, anyone playing Magic for any length of time should know that a strong Rare land cycle in a product is typically where a huge chunk of value that can be nearly depended on. Unfortunately for the Collector boosters from Zendikar, they can be hit or miss, but if you pull any amount of the special treatment fetches you are golden. My money is on Zendikar because I never believe the hype around new set that always inflates the prices of what turns out to be mostly bulk rares once the market settles.

I do like these box opening videos. I block channels that have "mega box opening" videos because at that point, it feels very much like those creepy toddler present opening videos, but I also like seeing a kind of breakdown of what to expect on a random buy. That extra $30 could have been an amazing card that was instead pissed away on "it could even be a boat!" It's interesting to note that holding sealed product is just hoping that somebody in the future is going to cave on a nostalgia buy and definitely isn't going to get his/her money's worth. Urza's Saga booster boxes are guaranteed to come nowhere close to their buying price in contents, but it'll probably be used as an investment for a channel starter.

I remember when I did my first few Drafts of MTG. One of them was Zendikar Rising and for the matches, I built an eh Blue Black Mill deck. It sorta worked but I almost won a game through deck out. Glacial Grasp and Zulaport Duelist were my main cards of milling.

Watching this on the last day of March and the professor mentions a foot of snow. I wish we had that much. We've got about 3 feet on streets, sidewalks, etc. in my area (currently at 95.2 inches cumulative for 2022-2023 winter season) and we're slated to get roughly three-inches in the few days.

I agree but I understand the corporate desire to have a "premium" product for those that want it. I think they should have draft and collector and that's it. Get rid of set boosters and jumpstart boosters to minimize confusion and product overload at the shelf. And this is coming from someone that buys set boosters.

I've been focusing more recently on learning about the history in the MTG, I can't right now have expanses with cards, but I'm thinking in collect some sets in a binder just for the beauty and history, fist one I was thinking on being Phyrexia, love the Phyrexian art, and second one is Return of Avacyn but this more for a personal thing, I'm not much of a fan of buying boosters, cause you can easily spend more than it's worth, for buying all the cards from one set boosters can be a good option for the common's, but I know nothing don't follow anything about magic since 2015.

I really love watching your videos, I used to play about 20 years ago or so. Was a DCI standard tourny player, and occasional champ. Then I found out I had stomach cancer and quit. Gave most of my collection to a friend. To which he sold it almost immediately. I beat the cancer wanted to get some of my stuff back, but alas all gone. So my step son started playing recently and now I'm back. Can't wait to get in there and play again lol. LOVE YOUR VIDS BRO.

I did this with Ikoria and it was A BLAST. I got 5 comic book triomes, and the jeskai one came in foil, Rhodan, extended art sharknado, extended art foil mothra, extended art Kudro, extended art foil extinction event, extended art foil emergent ultimatum, Foil Vince and of course, the mighty, the cursed, the FOIL CORONA! With many, many other EPIC cards, like Comic book gemraizer in its' 3D-style art, King Caesar Protector of Okinawa and apex predator foil, GODZILLA VS EXTENDED ART KING KONG! 2 Foils dire tactics to substitute in my pioneer precon deck. A bunch of comic book art foils, like 2 Vivien and 1 Narset in epic art... While in ONE... i got 2 extended arts gauntlet, a non-readable Vraska, many funny rares in black and white frame, some anime Planeswalkers, and some weirdly curled foiling cards. And that's it. Not epic, not nostalgic, nothing at all.

Opened my first collector booster box while in Japan and got Atraxa, Mondrak, and Solphim in one pack, but got Doubling season, The Great Henge and Anointed procession for less than $100 in singles there so singles still win.

Hey Prof, you are always harping on going to the LGS to play, which I like don't stop this, but standard shade is not helping it come back. Playing standard last week at the LGS for the first time since Covid was awesome. We only had seven players show up. I had the bright idea of buying a collector box to sell the cards to see if I could make any extra cash. I didn’t get any of the high roller cards. Total value was 180, if I could get the max for everything. I’ll never do that again. I did get some great cards for playing, but I’ll being staying away from collector packs.

I buy one collector booster per set at prerelease so I get max value and to support my legs which carries very few singles, I try to buy one draft/set pack per visit again to support the store, otherwise I buy singles, this works well for me, I get the rush of pulling value some times but I'm not looking to invest in anything

I’ll be honest and say I have opened about 6 set boosters of ONE and each box pulled roughly $175+ in value back. The two collector boxes I opened I pulled about $150-$175 as well. I enjoyed opening the collectors more only due to the fact I was able to get the really sweet Step and Compleat foils. I think WOTC should do away with collector boxes and simply add the ability to pull the fancy chase foils and full arts in the set boxes. Make it to where the chance is low about 1%-5% but still it would probably increase sales on the set boxes and then also justify the prices of the set boxes a little more since they have increased so much over the last few years or they could increase the amount of collector packs to 24 instead of 12 packs. You just don’t get the value back from the collectors from what I have noticed. That’s my personal opinion though, still love cracking packs regardless!

I find these interesting, but am still trying to learn magic as it is now, and all the different art types and foil treatments are confusing to me, any chance of a video explaining what everything is and what it means?
