5:00 for heat test, run a benchmark on the 4 cores, geekbench, extra tip you can lock down your pi os thru raspi-config, prevents logging wearing out the sd card. terminal, sudo raspi-config, performance options, Overlay file system => Enable or disable a read-only filesystem.

8:33 Couple of tips for you : - On your terminal, you can use the up arrow key to summon previously entered commands. - If you don't even want to bother with the arrow key, you can use the watch command followed by the actual command you want to monitor and it will automatically cast it every couple seconds for you. For exemple : watch vcgencmd measure_temp

I think you want your converter’s fin oriented vertically for best cooling efficiency

Nice Video Dave!! I have similar heat results from My Pi 5, it seems to produce less heat than the 4 doing the same job. I bought a heat sink case (basically a big around the pi) with active cooler and it has never come on, I may have to hit it with a heat gun to make sure it is working!! With regard to the wire strippers and crimpers, my dad was an electrician and I inherited his ratchet crimpers and automatic strippers from the early 80's and once you have used them, you never go back!!

Thanks Jason, I think the Pi 5 maybe overkill for this job but I am happy to have extra power if I want to do other functions with it down the road, I am going to have similar issues you had with connections at the helm I like your terminal box idea, I will need to make custom cables for the HDMI and USB for the touchscreen, thanks for your videos I am learning every viewing 👍

Hello! For my opinion in such kind of project is better to use passive cooling at all by means of using waterproof aluminium encloser with plastic elements or without it (in this case you may use external antenas for wifif of 4g), Raspberry Pi to use with Copper Heatsink Passive Cooling. Raspberry Pi have to be mounted to the aluminium encloser inside by means of cooper distancer which will transfer heat from heatsink of Raspberry Pi to aluminium encloser and to outside. I have some experiance with it and it is work fine. Also I suppose that it is possible to use much smaller incoser for such kinde of project especially in case it will be used for yachting. There is no need such big box for one Raspbery Pi and some small adiditional equipment. If you need I may to give you links to the waterproof aluminium encloser and heatsink for Raspberry Pi which I mean.

Thank you, yes I have moved to a smaller enclosure now with an Aluminum plate heat sink to move the heat to the outside of the enclosure but realistically the Pi 5 makes so little heat with this application I think it’s fine.

You have gone to a lot of trouble with the sealed enclosure there. Why do you consider this is necessary.? Corrosion on the Pi board or? I see many setups on boat without sealed enclosures for the Pi

They don’t last long in the salt air many good setups use sealed enclosures
