Piano Lesson with Warren

Piano Lesson with Warren

Күн бұрын

Pianists struggle way longer than they need to get to the advanced level, and sadly, most never get to the advanced level. In my experience, this lack of growth and direction stems from not having a reliable road map showing where each step needs to go to the advanced level.
In this tutorial, I'll explain the formula you've been missing for years.

I so appreciate your truth. Its my issue with song-specific tutorials. Students "learn" a single song and have no idea the theory behind it, so they can't play anything else. I push my student's forward to a new song every lesson and tell them, once they memorize a song, they're not learning to play, they're learning to memorize, which at some point can lead to un-learning, a huge issue with strictly classical students. Anyhow. Glad someone is saying it!

I truly appreciate you. I use to not like you, thought you were moving to fast. I finally followed your technique now I consider myself an intermediate piano played, yes I was trying to fast to be a better player without starting from the ground up. I took a little knowledge and convinced myself that I was ready. So I decided to listen to someone (you) doing what I want to do and I do feel and see the change as a confident and more relaxed piano player. Thank you, I highly do appreciate you. Much luv

Yes, just start with simpler songs. There are hundreds of songs out there that issues no more that 4-6 chords throughout the entire song - start with those types of songs. Once you begin to exercise that muscle you’d be supervised how easier it gets. Right now I can learn the most complex songs and memorize it in under an hour - this wasn’t always the case, but I worked up to it over the years.

Thanks for your advice! Now, I know I want to review all of those arpeggios, scales, chords and progressions in every key. I have them in my head, but I need to practice them. Our hearts and minds should become one with the music we play. What you said about speed is so important. What's the point of learning something fast if we can't understand it and feel every note? Once something becomes part of our heart and soul, we become the music. I remember a piano teacher telling me once that I was memorizing mistakes, so your pointing that out reminded me of that advice. No one can be advanced without having a rock-solid foundation. I understand a lot of the theory and can play a lot of pieces, but I still need to work on that foundation and also work some things out in my head. Practicing for fluency of expression is key. I agree with you that the process is more important than the destination.

I wish I knew this 20ys ago. I'm a self taught and picked up really bad habits: The transpose button. I could play prety much anything but with one key adjusted with the transpose button., i only realised that this was a serious limitation when the grand piano was what I needed to play. For a song I knew but it was in a key I'm not familiar with. I was so frustrated how difficult it was . . . But recently [3years ago, I started forcing my self to learn how to play with all keys.] Today,. I can say., I can see the improvement, im still not fully fluent with some few keys, especially F and G, i confuse these alot, but with your vedios, .. . I've got a hang of it., thank you for the good work you doing ,its really appreciated

It's kind of weird that my prayer was answered about how to play gospel music and what steps I need to take. I go on KZfaq and there you are pointing out the steps that I need to take and I found out it's not going to happen fast but if I keep my hand to the plow I believe I'm going to see the promise that God has for me. I already have the beginner's course. Four chords and fingerings and progressions and technique. When I'm done with that you can trust me on this one I'm going to be ordering more as long as I can stay connected with you in this walk of Faith by playing the piano for God's glory. Many blessings in Jesus name.

big ups my guy, I'm so far behind and have so far to go, I'm self taught and really don't know how to practice. I just downloaded you practice tips for beginners hopefully this will help me move forward. Its very embarrassing to be sitting at a keyboard at a church and cant play the song that they are singing... Thanks again man for all you do.

Great lesson, Warren. For me, though, it would be even better without the distraction of the intrusive background music - but this might not be the general consensus of your wider audience. Great to see a "Yardie" leading the way - again.

I feel like technique is the thing that really holds me back the most. Especially since I don't have a lot of time nowadays.

Sometimes I'll compose pieces for practicing technique. I find that helps for theory and ear training.

Great video Warren! I've been playing and making music for years. I always wanted to get better at writing better music and always felt like something is blocking me for advancing. I've watched hundreds of tutorials but always ended up getting confused or frustrated. your video felt different, and I could understand the things you're saying very clearly, I actually watched it while taking notes on a notebook after not touching a pencil in years! now I feel like I know better what path I have to take in order to achieve my goals of becoming a better musician. also I couldn't find the beginner template you mentioned at 13:04 so if anyone could let me know how to get it it'll be great! Thank you so much for this video, keep up the good work and God bless!

Following your channel has helped me improve alot warren. This is a great video. Though i can not get the link to intermediate practice template. You really explain issues with the learner in your mind. Slowly and sensitively.
