The reason why Morton got so much jelly roll was because his performances of this song were borderline athletic, I’d imagine
@TheEdgecution10

He often sang smutty lyrics and used the nickname "Jelly Roll", which was African-American slang for female genitalia.

He also was described by many as arrogant and he alienated a lot of people. Very few attended his funeral.

Ferdinand Joseph LaMothe (September 20, c. 1890 - July 10, 1941), known professionally as Jelly Roll Morton and was an American ragtime and jazz pianist, bandleader, and composer.In 1938, Morton was stabbed by a friend of the Music Box's owner and suffered wounds to the head and chest. A nearby whites-only hospital refused to treat him, as the city had racially segregated facilities. He was transported to a black hospital farther away. When he was in the hospital, doctors left ice on his wounds for several hours before attending to the injury. His recovery from his wounds was incomplete, and thereafter he was often ill and became short of breath easily. After this incident, his wife Mabel demanded they leave Washington.[20] Worsening asthma sent him to a hospital in New York for three months. He continued to suffer from respiratory problems when he travelled to Los Angeles with the intent to restart his career. He died on July 10, 1941, after an eleven-day stay in Los Angeles County General Hospita

This instantly made me want to hear a recording of a human play it instead. Rolls just don't do justice because they are so consistent, perfect, and lack rubato pushing and pulling on the beat. Entertainment centers definitely improved when Victor came out with recordings. Neat to see the notes though.

@@aggelosk3013 even so, composers still learnt from each other. Scott Joplin was heavily influenced by Chopin. 2 styles doesn't mean 1 cannot be influenced by a different style. When I compose music, surely I stick to the classical side, but a lot of the very catchy tunes I get from jazz and stride

Easy to say - it's still hard as shit, the left-hand jumps in that final strain kill buddy. If you aren't accustomed to playing fast tempo Ragtime/Jazz ESPECIALLY with the LH lol, well then good luck trying to play this. This ain't the same technique as classical, you really have to practice jumps, have experience, and a unique "feel" in Jazz to play it correctly...Lmao try using your 200-year-old etudes to play shit like this, I assure you it's really not something that can just be taught with few years practice - kzfaq.info/get/bejne/itSdktSAvsXWnWQ.html
