You are an amazing teacher! I am 61 years old and have played for years but only took about 4 years of piano lessons when I was a teenager. I read the notes well but never really learned anything about chords. I am so excited to learn chording and how to make songs sound fuller. You are a joy to watch!

You are so refreshing to watch. So much energy without being overbearing. I always come to watch your videos when I'm feeling like a total failure at the piano and discouraged to the point of asking, "Why do I bother." You're sure to cheer me up and remember to enjoy the piano, no matter what "level" you're at. Thank you so much.

I just started to play again after being away from it for 30 years. It feels good that I can still play a bit. Thank you for this routine because you just gave me ideas and blew my mind open to the possibilities. :) I tend to play randomly because sometimes songs and sounds get in my head, and often the only way to relax is to play those notes! :) Greatly appreciated.

@PaulTheEldritchCat4 жыл бұрын
These videos are such an inspiration, thank you ! I recently made up an exercise that if halfway through your parts 1 and 2. To practice my scales and the associated chords, I choose one random note, then play in a row arpeggios for every chord, going up and down. For example, in C major : C E G D F A E G B F A C ... till C E G again. And the same, but descending. It really gets tough in scales with 3-5 sharps or flats. But still satisfying and the melody created is kinda pleasing. That's ascending chords played with ascending arpeggios, but if it gets too easy you can switch to ascending chords with descending arpeggios, e.g. G E C A F D B G E... till G E C. Much more challenging once you are in A major or E major. An easier version of this is just playing the chords without arpeggiating (is that an actual word ?).

Wow! This is so coincidental. Just this morning, I added Hanon No.1 exercise to complement my Scale practice. I practice all Scales beginning with C and then working my way up to the C an octave higher, playing the minor Scales as well. I've also started adding what I would call a Swing Rhythm to my Arpeggio practice, playing the Arpeggios in as many varied ways as I can imagine. I love the simple improv exercise you illustrated here, something I will add to my routine as well. Thanks for this one!
