PICADILLO CON PAPAS!! DELICIOUS!❤

This is one of my favorite comfort foods, it reminds me alot of my childhood, because my mom fixed it often because we loved it. The combination of the meat and potatoes with the slight sweetness of the carrots is amazing.
When I fix this dish, I like to side it with refried beans and freshly homeade flour tortillas, it's a simple dish, outfits fit for a king.
INGREDIENTS---------------------------
1 lb. 80/20 ground beef
1/2 small diced onion
1/2 small bell pepper (diced)
1/2-3/4 C. chopped carrots
1 C. water (for molcajete)
2 small/medium size cubed potatoes
16 oz. diced tomatoes (I used my canned)
1/2 tsp peppercorns
1/2 tsp whole cumin
2 large garlic cloves
1/4 tso salt (in molcajete)
chopped cilantro (to your liking)
Water to cover your meat and potatoes (not to soupy, not to dry)
Salt to your liking

Rachel, I'm from Mexico, I have lived in the USA from 50 years, my sister-in-law who was born in the USA cooked Mexican-American fused together with old mexican food. I have to admit that your cooking is so extensive, you are are an amazing cook and your food is just heavenly. You absolutely deserve your own cooking show on food network.

Sí! I remember in high school in the 90s we watched a movie in Spanish class about Gregorio Cortez and in one scene he's eating rice, beans and tortillas. Omg, all of us in class were salivating at how yummy it looked. Simple and fresh!

100% agree we need this show on the food network.. all we have now is bobby flay and guy fieti . Seems all they have now days is the competition shows and not a lot of good ole cooking shows. At least we still have the pioneer woman to watch. But we need rachel on the food network

Dear Rachel, absolutely love your cooking style. As yourself I too grew up savoring the traditional Mexican cuisine , that my dearly departed grandmother , mi Mama Lola. She would get up very early in the morning and start to prep all her ingredients that she would need for what ever menu she had planed in advance. By the time that the rest of us got up the entire house was filled with the aroma of her love for cooking such beautiful and savory, mouth watering food. She was my inspiration to become a professional chef. Thank you so much for your delightful personality.

Brought back child memory with my Mom , she cooked with Love and I was told I do the same I believe the Love is the main ingredient . My Mom made this dish with all us , it was a meal that could be stretched out . She also made a pot of beans everyday and sometimes the beans and rice was the meal . She made tortillas for my dads lunch everyday at 4 in the morning and made tortillas everyday for dinner . I made the dish for my children when they were growing up . Miss my mom but grateful for your sharing . Thank you Also love the background 🎵 oldies music 🎼

I love how it's such a versatile dish, you can add so many things or just make it plain. My dad would add corn and a small can of mushrooms. If I have a bunch of veggies, I'll add them: squash, celery, carrots, corn, potatoes

Looks delicious Rachel. We live in Texas near New Mexico where long green chili is a staple so I usually use that instead of bell peppers which also takes sooooo good.

Wow, that looks delicious! So simple. I'm a TX born & raised woman, and moved to SPI in the mid 80s for work in Brownsville, I never heard of this dish. I guess I didn't go to the right places down there lol. I'm not sure I would've ordered it anyway not being familiar and bcuz seafood and enchiladas/tacos and such is primarily what I ate. Gosh those were great times! Thanks for showing us a great dish to fix.

Another superb dish that is a staple for any Hispanic kitchen. I love that you still use the molcajete to ground your spices. You made me hungry sweet amiga! BTW, I made your buttermilk biscuits and they were absolutely delicious! Thanks for the recipe.

You know, many people have picadilla con papas recipes and I have taken several and combined them as well as added my own to it. Thank you for showing us your recipe on this amazing dish. The common theme I have found is tomatoes. Some chop them, some do the sause but tomatoes are the basic and of coarse, one thing I must try is carrots as yours had. And of coarse, the standard is sirve con tortillas y frijoles. Thank you again!

I’m so envious when you bring out your home canned tomatoes, my mother in law used to can a lot of things, but tomatoes were my favorite, she used to make macaroni and tomatoes and I loved that dish. My mom seldom made anything with pasta because my dad wasn’t a fan. I’ve tried making macaroni and tomatoes using tin canned ones, but doesn’t even come close to being as good as my mil made.

These are recipes my mom would cook us when I was a child. She grew up in Mexico and had to learn to cook at the age of 6 my grandmother didn't teach her she learned form the street vendors by asking them questions. I use alot of the same dishes she made. But mainly we were not real rich and a big family so beans, rice and potatoes were a staple in our house. I make something similar to your picadillo con papas. Ill have to try it. Mmmm!

Oh Ms. Rachel, whenever I see your foods you made how I want to climb over the channel and taste your food. They look and I would imagine they taste just like my mothers food. We lost her last year in November and how I miss her cooking. 😢 She and my dad had 8 children and everyday growing up I can remember us having a meal with tortillas and some type of meat and beans. The stack of beans was so big and she never complained until we were all grown up and out of the house and finally she said how tired she was. But every meal you make and the torts you made remind me of so much of her. Thank you so much for sharing your cooking with us. I love it. So happy I found your channel.
