I wanted to find out how easy it is to drill out an euro lock. Therefore I used a 5 pin Abus euro cylinder which has no drill protection. Even with my standard tools I was able to get the job done and the plug turned. So be warned to use locks without drill protection. I've never done this before so please apologize some hiccups ;-) I also picked this lock in the beginning which was great fun.

Holy cow ;D...master of destruction...what a mess ;D. Drill slower and with a sharp bit, leave the oil away and cool the drill in between and it will work much better ;). The locks I've seen drilled, where all drilled lower, not directly at the shear line and if you drill smoth and straight, the pins will fall down. Anyway a nice experience for you :). Thanks for sharing this horror show (for a picker) Potti lol ;).

Sorry that I shocked you with that video ;-) For sure a sharp drill bit will help ;-) Why do you recommend not using cutting oil or drill water? Thanks for the tips with the position of the hole - I will do that again after all of your feedback for improvements. Cheers and thanks for watching and commenting.

No need beeing sorry, I had a good laugh ;). That was really a bit more destructive (and partialy dangerous) than needed ;D, but fun to watch. Cutting oil/water is simply not needed on this (and WD40 really is not), just drill way way slower and straight with a sharp (sharp) drill bit ;) and get the drill out from time to time. Lived in a metal company for 15 years ;D (and have spend a lot of freetime helping and playing with metal...well mostly stainless/steel), friends of me, they just moved away.

LOL very fun vid again buddy, cool picking and fun massive destruction party ;o)) when you are drilling a lock in a door you have to be careful not to go trough all the way because you can damage the cam and if you break it you have a real problem ;o)) you have to count the pins when you drill those to stop before the bible ends. A 4mm drill is enough, and you can dril near the shear line and make several passes to destroy the key pins. Many locksmith like to drill near the shear line becouse some times the drill protection don´t go so far. In locks without drill protection is better to drill the springs, all the pins fall down and the plug turns. Thanks for sharing ;o)))
@Potti314
@Potti314 7 жыл бұрын
Thank you - yes that was kind of a party ;-) To protect the cam is a valuable note - thank you. Will take all your feedback into account when I do it next time. I felt the hopes of the drill bit in the chambers of the bible so it would be easy to count them or I put a mark on the drill bit. The biggest problem was the burr in the drilled hole that prevented the pins from falling down. Maybe I just need to drill more carefully with a sharp drill bit.
@TallanPick
@TallanPick 7 жыл бұрын
I don´t know, but probably you are right and using a sharp drill bit the hole will be more clean and without burr. Anyway I no recomend to use WD40 becouse the drill bit skid, is better to use oil, the hole probably will be more clean this way. Thanks for share the xperiment, always learning with you buddy Cheers!

I was taught that you drill the sheer line. You drilled a little low and that could be why you could not clear the sheer line. However nice try for your first drilling of the lock. i did not know you can use lubricant to drill a lock. Thank you Potti :)

@Potti314 7 жыл бұрын
OK, will try to exactly hit the sheer line next time (and I plan to repeat it). When I had my apprenticeship (log time ago) I was told to always use drilling water or cutting oil so that the heat would not damage the drill bit. So I did here. Thanks for watching.

Sorry to bump into old video , but we also used a mixture of 98% of water and 2% of oil when drilling in highschool. :) We drilled hardened steel and deep holes on lathe , so it might make sense. :) We also wore kevlar gloves with leather reinforcement , so we wouldn't end up with small sharp pieces under our skin. I made mistake once , and now I have "souvenir" in my finger. 😂 And , everything we have ever done there about locksmitting itself was to make door knobs and hinges. The first ones were just knobs , nothing inside them , just holes for screws. :) The finalization part was to take a piece of sand paper , and , while knob is rotating , we polished it this way. :) At the uni , the story was different , we had to make everything in ProE / Catia , and push it back to the machine(s) where they'd do everything from scratch. :) We only had to insert material and cutting blades , and that was it. :)

Hi once you’ve drilled the lock the first time,insert a blank key to push the pins into the hole or tap the lock with a small hammer or screw driver handle then use a small hook to remove the dropped pins then drill again turn the core with the blank key job done,the drill bits should be hardplate bits

You can try drilling out the plug (the rotating cylinder). Just make sure you don't hit the cam at the end.
@pB-ox3qr

Drill plug only. You will see factory drill mark on key way use same size. Drill bit also "" use baby pin to keep pins up in the cylinder so they Dont get damaged "" once drilled pull baby pin out and all pins fall out.. Then use screwdriver and rotate plug to unlock. There are springs inside but with force will easy unlock. It takes around 2-3minutes to breach a lock

nice video. the only locks without drill protection are often those you can pick easily anyway. And a nice sidebar would also complicate the drill process. So a high density object accelerated towards a fragile often transparent construction element is still a more reliable method of entry.
@Potti314
@Potti314 7 жыл бұрын
Thank you. I know about the "easy" ways of entry ;-) But I was curious what problems arise when drilling a lock. I can see problems with a side bar but in the worst case the whole plug could be drilled out (given not steel inserts).
@RuneInternational
@RuneInternational 7 жыл бұрын
Potti314 I pay about €50 for 1 drill bit, but there is no reason to make a video demo of that, as lock sporters do not need to know those techniques. If they have a lock they can't pick, they just release tension on the vise and dump it back in the naughty bucket
@Potti314
@Potti314 7 жыл бұрын
Wow, 50EUR is a lot. But I can understand that you need to have one that can also attack hardened steel inserts. I'm not a lock picker solely but a person who is curious how things and techniques work and I like to test myself a lot. That's why I do it.

I've only drilled one lock, in the same spot as you did your first hole here, and the pin chambers caused an 'intermittent cut' so it broke 3 x 4mm HSS drill bits in a row ! The 4th bit got through. No anti-drill rods were present, just wicked brass chambers :o) Nice to see someone else have a go anyway... though I reckon picking was quicker in this case :o)
@Potti314
@Potti314 7 жыл бұрын
Uhhh, 3 broken drill bits. So I was really lucky with my attempt. Picking was easier but I wanted to get the experience of that method. And I learned a lot and got good feedback. So I will try again.
@noakeswalker
@noakeswalker 7 жыл бұрын
I could have used a bigger drill bit, which would have been stronger, but the lock was like a smaller version of your Euro Abus, and there was not much width to the core/bible. I agree that you only find out how it is to drill a lock by actually doing it ! In my case I had to use a hook pick to fish all the broken bits of drill and brass pins and swarf out of the drilled hole. I'd be a rubbish burglar :o) You should get yourself a tiny sharpening stone - you could probably put an edge back on some of those dead drill bits - maybe they are too far gone though ....there's only so much you can recover from, isn't there ? :o)

Onnozelaar .

@@Potti314 I've read comments that people are going to try this one day to save them money. The fact is it could cost them more money when it goes wrong. I have been to alot of jobs where they have watched youtube to try sort the problem & made it worse. Maybe it would be an idea to put a message up stating that you are experimenting & they shouldn't copy what you do. Wasn't ment to come across as impolite either
