For this carriage type shopping art lock in the back-yard of a super market. It's beaten up at lot but still protects a one EURO coins. Let pick it and inspect the mechanism.

Very nice to get one EURO for free with the only effort of sticking in a meat skewer - I believe the person who has beaten that poor lock would have loved to know that method ;-)

Poor little shopping cart lock, but fortunate for you that you found it :D. That was really interesting to see how they work inside :) and it even payed you hehe. Pretty basic, but effective :). Thanks a lot for sharing Potti and GZ for 400 cool videos :).

Thanks for watching my 400th video - when reaching 500 I'll "celebrate" the event ;-) I'm a lucky guy that I now have been able to inspect both types of cart locks.

Really cool video Potti. I really enjoyed it. I now know how these things work you explained it very well. And you got paid for it lol. Congratulations on your 400th video my friend. I'm looking forward to some more great videos. 😎😎😎

Thank you my friend - I am always very curious to see how things work. And these shopping cart lock are something I use every day but had no idea how the mechanism works. I wanted to buy them but you cannot do that if you don't have a shop. So I was really happy to find two different types recently.

In the UK I use my car key to wiggle it side to side and it popped open. That's only fun for myself and my kids and when I have no coin change for the shopping trolley .HA HA. Picking shopping trolleys.

Haha, that's cool - shopping cart hacking ;-) That's the little extra fun when having to buy something.

Very nice to see how this mechanism works from the inside :) I have the exact same lock, very easy to pick, but I'm having a hard time disassembling the two parts to see the inside. Seems like they're glued very hard, or maybe the plastic is melted to hold them together. Was trying very hard with a hammer... It would make sense because both parts *together* hold the metal chain of a second cart, so if they wouldn't be fixed hard together, it would not be able to hold the force...

Was my pleasure - cool to look inside and discover methods to defeat it.

I used to work at a supermarket which used these locks, and to use a trolley we'd use a bent corned beef tin key to operate the little lever!
@Potti3145 жыл бұрын
Yeah, this "lock" is pretty easy to overcome. I usually take the tip of my key to trigger the lever when I take my cart in the supermarket.

my favourite cart lock. my magic curved tool can also release this, and to get a free cart, i use a tip of a key to press the pin, while closing it, and then when nearly closed, I can pull the key out, and close it completely. Always leave them like that, to see kids take it and insert the key in the hope of finding a coin

and nice to see there are still a way to make use of my 1 DM Coins

Haha, you still have DM coins? Cool. To trick the kids is really mean ;-) My children always check the parked shopping carts and have found some EUROs already :-)

my way is easier, all you need to do is put a thin plastic into the side of where the coin is placed on the left. it works every time

Bit late reply only saw today but yes a plastic cable/zip tie works the best I saw member of my local supermarket staff get a trolley that way

Too bad that the coin tray / carriage is heavily damaged. Usually, there's no room left to put in a tool to press that latch. I do believe there's room to have a shim riding the side of the tray, though, preventing the latch from catching.

No no, it works like a charm :-) I just stopped at our supermarket on the way from work to home and tested it. They have the exact same model and I used a little stick from a tree that was fallen off. It had about the same dimensions as my meat skewer but shorter. I could "pick" the lock in seconds. There is plenty of space and you can very well see what needs to be depressed. I tried it three times - very reliable. Then I "picked" it open again by sliding in the stick on the other side - worked very nicely . Haha, great fun :-)

Another interesting reverse engineering video by or friend Potti314. Nice work. N.B.: More of these videos and you risk that the homeless community starts a fan club. :D
@Potti3147 жыл бұрын
I doubt that the homeless community has subscribed to me ;-) But your comment let me think that thieves could start hacking in-use shopping carts and steal the money. That's why it's better to just insert a plastic coin. Which makes the hole deposit-system a bit absurd ;-)

Here, tokens with no monetary value are used. If not, scumbags would be doing this like there was no tomorrow. :)

We also have these plastic coins but you also see a lot people sticking euro in the slot.
