Dekel should let that high defensive lob from Ben bounce instead of going for the weak blinded overhead. It would have bounced really high, and he could have just crushed it at it's apex around rib-cage high without having to stare into the sun. I find pro players are sometimes too insistent on hitting an available overhead either because of tennis instincts or because they don't want to give their opponent an extra second of time to get set defensively, but sometimes when the ball it going to bounce really high it is 100% the right move to pass on the overhead and just let it bounce. Thomas WIlson does this well.

I always think it's better to stack from the middle rather than the sideline when returning. If the serve pulls the returner out wide, you can always call an audible and decide not to unwind the stack. With the person starting off the court to the side, you don't have a choice. I guess it doesn't affect the Johns, but it seems silly to me that they do it this way. As always love your breakdowns, great learning experience.

Great point for sure. Not sure it warrants 20 minutes of analysis. The point between Vich and Stak makes this point look like a warm up point for 3.0. :). I know it's apples and oranges comparing singles and doubles, but the singles point is simply another level of athleticism.

i know being set and using split step is very important but as I get better in PB, I notice that I can hit balls on the run more and it just becomes second nature when playing...It's similar to when i play softball and have to make a quick run/throw on a ball hit slowly to the infield...there isn't time to get your feet set and you have to throw on the run and it is totally against everything you learn from a fundamental aspect but it has to be a part of your game...i see a lot of innovations in pickleball over the yrs and the more athletic it gets, the more "change on the fly" plays happen more often

@@BrionesPickleballI think all the pausing and replaying is fine, and is ultimately the point of the video. But it is good advice to play the whole point in its entirety first before you start breaking it down, so the viewer has the context to know what they are watching.
