Very well done. However for a newbie as I am, starting with server 2 in the beginning and then switching sides after server 2 loses is not explained. You might do the exact same explanation and then say " you might be wondering why the beginning of the game only 1 server (server 2) serves and the serve changes sides at the first lost point. I believe it is because it reduces the advantage given to the beginning team serving having a shorter opportunity to win a point. Not sure if that is right, but it makes a little sense - WELL DONE though on everything else.

I'd say it's a stupid scoring system that introduces unneeded complexity. No need to keep track of server's "number". Just alternate who serves, and alternate sides. Only keep track of each TEAM'S score. This was a game designed for seniors originally. We tend to have issues with short term memory. Why make this so darn complicated for what payoff?

Let's say that my partner likes to play on the right side and I like playing on the left side. When I (as the 2nd server) lose my serve, I am standing on the right side. When the serve goes to our opponents, are we allowed to switch back to our preferred sides or must I return serve from the right side?

Question: if ‘A’ is serving (on the right side) and they win the rally, A now has to serve in the left correct? But does A have to stay on the left side after the serve or can he go back to the right side? I have seen a lot of videos of pro matches where this happens. A person who originally started on the right side will just go back the that side once they finish serving from the left.

I have a silly question that no one has reviewed yet. At least no video that I can find. I am new and we are wondering what happens when I serve in single play, the serve is good but my opponent is unable to return due to missing the ball or smashes it into the net or other. Is this a point for me? Do I simply re-serve? The rule book does not cover this or am I incorrect? Thanks!!!

Yes! You get the point and then you serve again but to the other side. If you served from right and won point you would serve from left side next time. Does that answer?

1) the first serving team only gets 1 serve, if they lose the serve, does the opposing team get 1 or 2 serves? 2) if the opposing team is serving and then faults, does the player on the other team serve on the right side serve or is it based on score ( if 2 then right, 3 then left)?

1) Opposing team gets 2 serves 2) No! if your opposing team does fault the 2nd player is not required to serve from right side. He/She will serve from the side where he/she was standing before the serve

I've played tennis, racketball, ping pong and volleyball over the years--all sports in which there are servers and receivers. This scoring "system" seems unnecessarily complex for no good reason that I can see. Each team should make sure they alternate serve and side, and just keep track of each side's points.
@kentsmith2929

Agreed. If there were a justification for the complexity, I am sure it would've been provided here to help with the explanation. I can't see why it needs to be done this way.

When it is side-out, which player on the winning team serves? Is it whoever happens to be on the right side of the court, or is always the designated "first server?"
@TheSchoolOfSports
@TheSchoolOfSports 3 жыл бұрын
Yes! You are right. Whoever happens to be on the right side of the court will serve first. Detailed Explanation from official Rules: When the serving team makes its first fault, the serving team's players will stay in the same side of the court, and the second partner will then serve. When they make their second fault, they will stay in their same court positions, and turn the ball over to the other team. Players switch sides of the court only after scoring.

In the middle of the game, Player 1 always serves on the right side. does Player 2 then serves on the left side regardless of where Player 1 ends serving. If Player 1 ends up losing the int after serving on the left side, will Player 2 now serve on the right side?
@TheSchoolOfSports
@TheSchoolOfSports 3 жыл бұрын
No player 2 serve side will depend on the serve side of player 1. If player 1 served from right and lost point then 2 will server from left. If player 1 served from left and lost point then player 2 will serve from right. Hope that clarify your dobut.

On first serve in your illustration, B serves first and is player #2 and their team won the first point and B kept serve. Now, if team A/B had not won a point, if I understand this (doubtful), A would not get a serve but serve goes over to team XY. Any other time, though, both players get to serve until they lose their serve.....is this correct?........
@carlos4179
@carlos4179 Жыл бұрын
If I understand it, you are correct. The explanation is the the team who gets the first serve of the game, that team only gets to lose one point before the serve switches sides. This counts only for the very first server. Once the serve goes to team XY (and for any serves thereafter) the each player on the team gets to serve and lose the point before it goes back to the other side. In other words, there is a special rule for the first serve team. It makes sense. Otherwise, the team serving first gets too much of an advantage.

@TheSchoolOfSports
@TheSchoolOfSports 3 жыл бұрын
I have wondered about this question and I do have understanding of it. This is done very thoughtfully! This is to keep the game fair to both the teams. Let me attempt to explain. Let's say every time when player does a serve player win a point and loose next one. Score start 0-0-2 and team to serve first wins 1 point and then loose next so the score is 1-0 now the second team wins 2 points and score becomes 1-2.....then first team wins two points score becomes 3-2 .....and then 3-4......the gap between points would be 1 always In this scenario the game will never end if we start with 0-0-1 it will keep on going indefinitely. Team serving first will win a point and then sereve changes and then each team will win 2 points when it's their turn. In this way the difference of points would be always 1 and therefore game is fair and it goes on. Consider alternative scenario where game start by 0-0-1 then in that case team to serve first gets 2 points and then opponent gets 2 points it becomes 2-2 then first team gets 2 more points and score become 4-2...........as you can see the point difference is 2 so team to serve first will reach 16-14 at some point and they will win. It's little tricky to explain by message, I hope you got it. Basically it's designed to keep game fair and not to give huge advantage to the team that severs first. This concept exists in lot of spots.

But at the 1st start of the game, let say player A 1st to start serve, and if he lose a point the serve will back to opponent right? Not to player B which is player A partner. U mean like no 2nd serve at the start of game?

A very good graphic, but you never “lose a point.” You lose the rally, not the point. Losing a rally results in either a loss of serve, or an opponent winning a point. These a two different outcomes, not losing a point for both. Points are won. You can’t lose a point you never had.

Correct me if I am wrong. There seems to be a mistake in this video. At the very beginning of the game. White serves from the right side of the court. I think the score is 0-0-1. But you indicate the score as 0-0-2. Which is right? It seems that after white loses the serve and then regains it, then the serve on the right side is 2. Or is it that during the first point only, that server from the right side is 2. But when the white side regains the serve, then that same player, who serves first from the right side is designated as 1. In other words, does the player on whites right side change his number; on the very first serve he is designated as 1, but after regaining the serve he is designated as 2. I thought that the white right player is 1 from the beginning. Please clarify.
@carlos4179
@carlos4179 Жыл бұрын
I asked the question a little bit wrong. The sentence on line 3 should read: It seems that after white loses the serve and later regains the serve, then the server on the right side is 1.

My question probably has an obvious answer but...🤷‍♀️ The first number score is the server score, the second is the reciever score, but what about when the server team changes, how can the score be accurate when the server position changes? I'll try to be clearer Server score is 4(team A) Reciever score 2(team B) The third number 1(team/player1) 4-2-1 Next Server 4(team A) Server 2(teamB) Third 2(teamA/player2) 4-2-2 Next Serve goes to teamB, If they get the point ,,would the score show 5-2-1. or 2-5-1. ? Since the "server" changed?🤷‍♀️
@TheSchoolOfSports
@TheSchoolOfSports 3 жыл бұрын
Score is Server Score : Receiver Score : Service(1/2) Whoever is serving their score will be called out first. In the above example after the change of serve score would be 2-4-1. You only get a score/point if you win a point when you are serving so that's why the score would be 2-4-1 and not 2-5-1. Does that clarify your doubt?

I'm still not clear about doubles positioning and odd (left side) and even (right side) scoring. So when the game starts (0-0-2), Team A serves and whoever is standing on the right side in Team A is Server 2. Let's say Team A scores 3 points from Server 2 then faults and Team B gets the serve. So in the Team B side, whoever is starting in the right side will be Server 1 and the one standing on the left will be Server 2. So Team B be calls out 0-3-1. Team B faults and the serve goes to Server 2. So Team B calls out 0-3-2. Team B faults again and the serve returns to Team A. Because Team A's score is odd (3) whoever is standing on the left side becomes Server 1 and serves from there (left side)?

@@jibbyleo I think that is correct. whoever is on the right side is player one when server (unless they have just moved because they won the shot)

why would you start the video with white's 2nd server to serve? shouldn't you start the game with white's first server to serve?

Why not just make the scoring like tennis. It's much simpler and less complicated having to remember the number of the person serving and all that?

Why couldn't they use the same scoring system as doubles tennis? This is beyond nuts. Did some bored software engineer come up with this system?

Starting at 0-0-"2" is ridiculous! No real reason for not simply starting with "1". Pickleball does not have to be so confusing on some of its rules!

Why make it so complicated, all sports such as badminton and volleyball have been simplified, the rules setter is rubbish

Hey Einstein, you make this very confusing from the start. At the start of your video you state that the player on the right (white B) is player 2 (0-0-2), at the end of the video you state that the player on the right is always player 1 ("Player 1 always start to serve from right side"). So which is it???
@TheSchoolOfSports
@TheSchoolOfSports 3 жыл бұрын
I totally understand that it could be confusing because of inconsistency. Let me tell you that you paid full attention and asked correct question! Let me elaborate the answer. As I said in the beginning of video, when the score is 0-0 and game starts player 2 will serve. In beginning score is 0-0-2 that's why second player will serve. If score would have been 0-0-1 (which is not the case) then player 1 would have served from right side, but the rules are such that game starts with 0-0-2 and that's why player 2 will serve. After first change of serve and for rest of the game the score will be X-X -1 and it will be player 1 who will be serving always, when score becomes X-X-2 then player 2 will serve. Does that clarify if not let me know and I can try to explain in different way.

@@TheSchoolOfSports Yes, I understand. Thank you for your explanation. I am most curious as to why the game starts with player 2. Is there any specific reason why the game starts with player 2?
@TheSchoolOfSports
@TheSchoolOfSports 3 жыл бұрын
@@critindahouse4697 I have wondered about this question and I do have understanding of it. This concept exists in almost all the sports.
