I don't like that all of these rating examples say that a 2.0 person cant give consistent serves and doesnt know the rules. I knew the rules just fine after a few games and served with no problem my first time on court, but that didn't make me a 2.5-3.0. There needs to be a better way for these rankings to be explained. I think more emphasis should be put in your physical ability to hit certain shots AND in knowing the strategy. Knowing rules and consistently hitting serves feels so basic that it shouldn't factor. Further, my ability to hit a 3rd shot drop or a deep return varies wildly depending on who my opponent is, so just because I can do it well against some and poorly against others can't make for 1 single number determining your ability Lastly, I hate the most that the ranking includes how long rallies are. I see total new 1st time beginners with rallies of 8-10 back and forth, they're just hit super high in the air and with no strategy at all. I don't think rally length should even be mentioned

I’m an oddball. I’ve watched hours and hours of Pickleball videos so I know the rules and strategy. But I’ve only played one game in my life so I don’t have the skill to execute all the shots.

Great video man! California 5.0 or Michigan 8.0 lol! I'm a relatively new pickleball player, but quickly adapting and dominating local players. I have a strong ping pong and decent tennis background which helps a lot. I'm competing in my first ever tournament in orange county this weekend, and I wasn't sure which rating to use. However, I'm getting the impression that I'm around 4.0/4.5 so I went with the 4.0+ group still working out some kinks. This should be a big step up from my social casual games to see where my skill level falls and should be good experience.

I understand the rating system, what you know and how well you do things. BUT there is a severe overlook, a person who is a senior versus someone half their age. Big, big oversight with rec play and what your rating is. Isn’t apples to apples.

I tell people I'm a 4.0 above the knees but a 2.5 from the knees down. Hopefully, after the total knee replacement, I can get all of me into the 4.0 range. Regardless, go out hit that plastic orb and have fun.

Okay, so I have played exactly once and have a fairly consistent server. I'm also not having issues with rallies though the group I play with is all beginners so there isn't a lot of drinking atm. Maybe a 2.0-2.5?

Ratings do not increase by .5 over 3.0. There are many people who are rated 3.25.

I know as a vlogger you don’t want to offend folks by statements like California 5 vs Michigan 8. I watch lots of game videos and play in several regions. I see two big discrepancies in ratings: geography and age. Actually, even within the same City a 4.0 at one venue would be considered a 3 to 3.5 at another. As for age. Theoretically, a 5.0 age 70 can play strongly against a 5.0 30 year old. Nope. The skills and knowledge are there but the mind and the body do not always get along well.

As an athletic 26 y/o, I think I mastrered pickleball by my second playthrough. Pretty sure I'm like 4.5
