Pakistan's automobile industry still remains an infant industry despite over half a century of it's existence.
Continuous localization efforts have halted the growth of industry in Pakistan and dissociated it from the global value chain as well.
Cars in Pakistan are low quality, high priced and lack features compared to vehicles available globally. Furthermore, the vehicles introduced in Pakistan are mostly a generation behind the equivalent cars available elsewhere.
High duties to protect local firms against foreign competition has not allowed the market to develop. Localisation and protectionism has killed consumer welfare and coupled with the booking system allowed the emergence of a black market premium called ON Money in Pakistan automobile industry.
Pakistan must kill off protection for car industry and push firms to compete and export. Without becoming part of global value chain, the automobile industry will continue to remain an infant that refuses to grow.

@@vizmouli No , most of the parts are made in India but in production factories owned by Chinese industries but the employees are Indians and the money circulation is done so in the Indian Economy

@@therelaxlead676 Not for Japanese, German, Indian and Korean car companies. Only MG is a Chinese company and BYD has just come in. There is no other Chinese car manufacturing company in India. Gurgaon, Chennai, Pune, Vadodara are major automobile parts manufacturing belts supply the automobile production plants in their regions plus exporting as well. India is the third largest automobile industry in the world having recently overtaken Japan.

@@jackblack2548 I was replying to the fact that even if parts are from Chinese enterprises , many of them have Indian plants as well like Mahindra and Benson of China in talks for Automotive glass , not denying the fact that India is heading more and more towards a sustainable , heavy demand market with export-oriented strategies as well

Gurgaon, Chennai, Pune, Vadodara are major automobile parts manufacturing belts supplying the automobile production plants in their regions plus exporting as well. India is the third largest automobile industry in the world having recently overtaken Japan. Japanese, German, Indian and Korean car companies rule the Indian market. Only MG is a Chinese company and BYD has just come in. All Italian marquee brands have official stores in India like Ferrari, Maserati, Lamborghini. Jaguar Land Rover is owned by Tatas and are fully present in India. So are Rolls Royce and Ashton Martin with official stores in all major cities.

Neither Pakistani businessman nor Pakistani people have the capacity and talent to compete in free market. Thats why protectionist policies. Otherwise free market forces will eat the whole so called “car industry” in Pakistan. Pakistan use to be competitive in textile industry way way back. There is nothing Pakistanis can compete in now. Eating and laughter shows is the only industry and society in Pakistan.

Morocco has a Free Trade Agreement with Europe, so cheap labor makes exports to Europe viable. Where is Pakistan going to export to neighboring countries? To you check so-called experts.

Unfortunately Nadeem sb is incapable of allowing guests to complete their points and has an incessant habit of interjecting and pushing his own pessimistic agenda. I am not saying that things aren't bleak in Pakistan, however, this is meant to be an academic discussion and not an avenue for ranting. I am often shocked shocked at the hypocrisy of Nadeem sb where he is opposed to Babu raj in Pakistan only to be a Babu himself.

The problem with every Pakistani elite is that each one of them wants an end to the 'Afsarshahi attitude' while embodying the same attitude themselves.

Lots of vested interests created by protectionist policies. Nobody can run medium or heavy industry without “NOC” from the very powerful. Elite capture is almost complete. The best affordable car I drove during last 55 years was a three years old PRIUS. I would quote one of my Punjabi speaking school teachers with nearest Urdu translation: “اگر انصاف ہی کرنا تھا تو پاکستان بنانے کی کیا ضرورت تھی “😊

no company builds 100% localized vehicles, they usually localize core components parts like engines ,industrial frame , chasis ,transmission components and few electronic parts , but microchips are mostly from china cuz its cheaper , india does that we have indian car brands which build their core car components locally but chips are imported from china , in 10 yrs we will be self sufficient in semiconductor of 30nm to 15nm , indian companies also build engines chasis and transmission for Mercedes bmw
