Wire Cabinet / Closet Restoration
A wire cabinet (Pie Safe in the US. Meat Safe in Australia) about 60 years old. I fell in love with it the first time I saw it. I think I'll use this at home. Thanks for watching.

I found your channel just the other day and I’m having a great time binge watching your videos! I love pie safes. Many years ago in college I worked on an interpretive farm and we had a pie safe about that size but up on legs so it was about 5 feet tall. We would prepare our meals daily as if living on a farm from about 1900 on the American Midwest. Our pie safe didn’t have wire mess but punched tin inserts in an elaborate star pattern. It was punched from the inside out because that made it more difficult for flies to get in. Lovely restoration and brought back memories I haven’t thought about in ages.

In our area of the USA we call that piece of furniture a pie safe. It kept flys off baked goods while they cooked. Thanks good job

Yes I have a larger one. It is definitely called a Pie Safe in the US.

Действительно получилась красивая и функциональная вещь в которой можно хранить пироги и любые продукты перед подачей на стол. И хорошо что мастер сохранил его аутентичность, полное ощущение что это бабушкин шкафчик где хранятся разные вкусности. Прекрасная вещь, сделанная настоящим мастером! Респект по всем статьям!

That was brilliant 👍 I really love the fact you kept as much of the original timber as you could. I think if you had just replaced it all it would have lost some of its appeal. Finished project is just amazing. Well done.

I have an old homemade pie safe. Last year doing some redesigning in the house I set it out on my back coveted patio. As veggies came our of the garden late fall I put them in the pie safe...it was amazing how well the stayed fresh in that

Very nice, sympathetic restoration. The damage to the wood was quite bad. Excellent reconstruction of the original components, keeping as much of it as possible.

We had one of these stood in the cellar of the farmhouse where I grew up in the UK in the 1960s and 1970s. For 20 years we never had a fridge but the cellar was so cold fresh food never went off as long as it was eaten fairly quickly. The meat safe just kept the flies off. Amazing to see one restored.

I hadn't seen one of those pieces of furniture in years, my mother had a very large one but the arrival of refrigerators changed it, it was something great to keep food out of the reach of insects.👍

WOW! We had one of these growing up in Trinidad 80yrz old or more. My brother-in-law who a Master cabinet Maker restored it to perfection and it brought back so many childhood memories.

Found what I think was one (coop?)missing the front metal screen of 4 sides on high legs .so I put the old matching back screen to the front and bought an antique window frame the had old copper screen inside aged with paint and patina in that order. I used old rusty upholstery tacks to insert the screen. A little shellac and buff and it was ready to go . wasn't as fancy as yours .thank u for showing how patience helps with these type of projects God bless

Both of my Grandmothers had pie safes, however, the pies were not safe from me. One safe had the wire mesh like yours. The other had tin panels with punched through tiny holes in repeated star pattern. Thank you. Narragansett Bay

a very good job, saved the integrity of the piece and yet stabilized the structure, the only difference is I would of used copper screen. a very good job.

Ooh, beautiful at the end there. I’ve seen pie safes in the US that thin metal sheets (tin) with interesting designs tapped into them like birds or flowers. This one is still gorgeous!

Beautiful restoration! This brought so many memories, my grandmother had a similar one. In India it was used to store milk and milk products, pre refrigerator times. 😊
