Antique Wooden Suitcase Restoration
As soon as I saw this old wooden suitcase on an online store, I fell in love with it. The view was great but it had too many issues. I tried to rehabilitate it as much as possible and preserve its original appearance.

This type of wooden suitcase is well known here in Brazil, mainly because of the Turkish and Syrian-Lebanese immigrants, who were specialized in itinerant trade and peddler work.

This just makes me smile. There's such a joy in seeing old and broken things restored and brought back to life. I love it.

I thought the box was beyond restoration but you proved me wrong. Sympathetic restoration which preserved the old character but makes it strong enough to be used for another 50 years.

I love that you didn't sand away all the scuffs and scratches. This suitcase earned its battle scars, and they really add to the Old and Important look. I imagine someone kept a whole typewriter or sewing machine in this suitcase and it went on many journeys.

Love what you have done here. And all by hand by the way. Restored, It looks like an old case, which it is, but one that has been well used and well cared for. I think it's really great to see old things respected, probably because I am one.

My grandfather had a case similar to this. He got his on his trip to Finland. To this day it has held up. Great restoration.

У бабушки и дедушки в Ташкенте тоже были такие чемоданы, там всегда лежало какое то старое барахло..... Для них была это память, а я всё думал почему они это не выкинут ? Они умерли, а я постарел, теперь я понял почему они всё хранили...... Я такой же стал..... Красивая работа, память о предках....

Beauitful Old Wooden Suitcase. I don't ❤️ believe I have ever Seen one except maybe it the Movie Ma an Pa Kettle when they go to New York to visit thie Oldest Son Tom and his wife Kim. I love this restoration. Totally in keeping with its apparent history. I suspect that it might have originally been an apprentice's test piece. It has that not-quite-experienced look about it.

Вроде простая вещь, а сколько нужно вложить труда! Отлично получилось! Я бы еще добавила маленькие металлические ножки круглые, но ведь это вещь теперь интерьерная, по этому не обязательно. Приятно там будет хранить воспоминания либо для фотосессий использовать. 👍👍👍👍👍👍

I know this is a relative simplistic piece of woodwork compared to many things and not even made with the best type of wood, but I actually really like it. I’d love something like it to display some of my homemade crafts in. It really would look great. Well done on the upgrade, it looks so much better xx

Местами старые вещи, предметы удивляют своей простотой изготовления. Взял и пару тройку едениц времени на коленке все сделал.

Д.Л. Прекрасная работа, интеллигентныый подход к вещи и к делу. У меня есть почти такой же фанерный древний чемодан и я всю жизнь мечтаю его реставрировать. Но не умею. И никто из окружающих не умеет. Так и живёт чемодан неотреставрированный. А вот жили бы вы поближе.....

I was wondering if it was possible to restore something with such thin wood. I was biting my nails the whole time. Yet, you nailed it. Oh, did I mention I noticed a lot of nails? 😁 Seriously though, great work as always. Would expect nothing less.

Hello from France Nice restoration, this suitcase must be a little heavy to travel especially if you take the plane with a weight limited to 23 kg per person you will not be able to put a lot of stuff in it

Two things i would had made different. First is to add a thin leather strip on the inside, between the lid and the case. That way the lid can be opened, but not lie down on the table. Second is to use longer nails for the handle where it's fastened to the case. Longer nails that then is bent like a U on the inside, then hammered into the wood agein. That way the handle will be able to withstand allot more weight. This is sole due to the size of the case. A smaller/thinner case would be fine with just using stright nails. But given its size, its ineviteble that it will end up having heavy things in it.
