A tough land base fishing session along Corio Bay which had it all. Strong winds, Lightning strikes and broken gear. We did however mange to land a few nice fish on soft plastics and bait including a beautiful red gurnard, flathead, whiting, and snook. We also lost our fair share of fish including one big one that wrapped us around the jetty. Don’t worry we will be back with more videos to redeem ourselves soon.

Another great videos even if it was slow, just shows the reality of fishing and that its not as easy as people thinks. Requires patience and lots of practice to get any results, the fact that you've managed any fish on a slow day shows how experienced you are mate welldone. Glad your friend is ok, that is some scary stuff being strucked by lightning. Keep up the good work mate your amazing

Thank you Ken, Its exactly what we were trying to highlight that fishing can very challenging and you don't bag out every time you go. In fact there are often doughnut session despite the best efforts and we wanted to paint that picture to others. Show some realness and humility that others can relate too. Really appreciate your kind words

I spent 2 hours there today with my son and couldn't get a bite bait fishing. Never caught a Gurnard there though so well done on that. There are some solid Trevally in the bay at the moment and I reckon that is what got you under the pier as the beasts specialize in that sort of behaviour.

Thanks Paul, yeah it can be very hit and miss down there, usually goes quiet during the middle of the day. I went there without a camera a few weeks back in the morning on high tide and it went nuts with Flathead and snook on lures and bait. I think your right that a brute on a Trevally took my line and headed for the structure. The gurnard was certainly an interesting catch. Thanks for the comments !!

@@fishingmad Yeah they definitely are cool fish. Also I am well and I have been out fishing on the holiday break, yesterday I caught my first Murray cod of 2019 and I have caught a couple other cod and some reddies. I'm hoping to get out on Port Philip with my uncle sometime this week which would be good but we still have to organise that.

Good shit mate. Was that rod you lost the fish on a light rod?
@fishingmad
@fishingmad 5 жыл бұрын
We had a broken gopro mount and lost one rod, must of been a decent fish that pulled in a bait rod with no time to react. The rod was just a general purpose 3-5k version.

It sure does, not so much the gear that was lost, but an epic fish that could have potentially been caught. That's fishing you win some and loose some. ill be back for redemption or just another excuse to do more fishing LOL

I've also learnt the hard way that fishing with carbon/graphite rods in thundery weather is no good! That Gurnard was a pretty little thing. Apparently they're good to eat, but looks like a minefield to try and clean one.

Was a big shock when it happened, I was standing right behind him heard the electrical current as he cast and then he started screaming. Thankfully he was OK, but that was the end of our fishing trip. I was out on my kayak last year when a big storm came through. I had a couple of close calls with thunder and lightning I could hear the rods holding current was the most scariest fishing day of my life, wont do that again. Hopefully your incident was too bad, can go wrong very quickly.

Allen, wasn't bad. Dropped the rod pretty quickly though.. Got caught out on Western Port in a big storm two years ago. Went from 3 to 46 knots in 5 mins. Like glass to 3m waves. Took 20 mins to pass through.. Was like Armageddon. No more fishing in thunderstorms for me anymore.

Can be very hit and miss down there at times. A couple of weeks ago I had one morning where I caught 4 flathead over 40cm, 2 large snook and a couple of pinkies in 2 hours, then the same time next day and not a touch.

There was text at the end of the video which said that he is doing fine, but was more of a big scare. His rod was struck half way through a cast the electrical current made him scream and drop the rod like a hot potato. We all gathered around him and made sure he was doing OK, we also stopped filming and our fishing session short to ensure he was properly taken care off. I also spoke to others on the pier about being careful if they choose to keep fishing. His doing perfectly fine, and we caught up again for a fish yesterday. Thanks for the concern and comments.

A little sceptical, if his rod was hit by lightning he would probably be dead.
@fishingmad
@fishingmad 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Paul, 100% he was hit. It happened right in front of me. He screamed and you heard the electrical current as it happened. His rod and hair were smoking a little bit afterwards. He was in shock for some time so I took him straight home to get checked over the the doctors. Thankfully he was all good and back to fishing the next day.
