Hamas started this war because Israel was normalising relationships with the many regional countries and they didn't want that. So Hamas knew that is they slaughters Jews Israel would retaliate and they could use that to stop peace in the region. Hamas need to accept Israel#'s right to exist and then they can live in peace.
