Part respect, part psychologist, I am sure. Either way, it's a marvelous trait. People these days are so disconnected from each other that being listened to tends to become more important to them than listening. That's a problem because the conversations of two people who demand each others ear without lending their own will quickly devolve into shouting, screaming, and ultimately, physical altercation. It really is a good thing to emulate.

The side of the Church debate right now that views itself as “progressive” are people covering up the same Church scandals as the conservatives however instead of being against the Pope this side of the Church attacked the Church with ideology and heresy. They taught the faith confusing and ambiguously on purpose teaching, Gnosticism, pantheism, paganism, Marxism, and extreme left wing politics. From them they showed me that while it looks like they care for the marginalized on the outside in reality they didn’t care if I died on the side of the road. The money and help does not go to the needy. The Church will now need to be repaired through the next generation of laity and the next generation of priests working together If they can be taught properly.

Sorry to hear about that! Sometimes though, those of us who have had a father, who never stated that they love us and only ever put us down end up struggling immensely. Which is better probably only that which we both were denied; a fully functional loving father. What I learned during this time was this truth: Psalms 27:10 ....my father and mother forsake me, but the LORD will receive me. And this absolute truth... Psalms 68:4 Sing to God, sing in praise of his name, extol him who rides on the clouds ; rejoice before him -his name is the LORD. Psalms 68:5 A father to the fatherless, a defender of widows, is God in his holy dwelling. I blamed him at one stage and then I accepted that humans have free will.

I'm a teacher and what JP said about kids being awesome resonates with me. Only yesterday I had reason to grin from ear to ear, resulting from a child's words. I was with a mixed group of four year olds, instructing them on scissors and how to cut correctly. After telling them how to proceed, one little guy, really delayed and struggling with speech and cognition, responded, clear as a bell with a huge, cheeky grin, said, "OK, my darling! " It sounded exactly like his mother but his expression told me he knew it would make me smile. Just those little gems make it worthwhile.

I teared up during the conversation about Mikhaila's chronic pain journey, having suffered for 12 years myself. I've watched JP for years in that time and his daughter too. He gave me the gift of information like no else has. The growth in my knowledge, maturity and recent success can without a doubt mostly be attributed to him. He even blew me away with his recommendation of ADHD meds for chronic pain, with the new meds changing my world. What a remarkable man he is and Mikhaila too for having been through what she has. Piers asked all the questions I have been wanting to know, so good on him for doing his research. And JP's parting words about Mikhaila saying she is tough and "fun to be around but don't mess with" her is exactly how I see myself now. All proof he's been a father to me, and so many millions around the world, too. Their love for each other is heart-swelling. Piers also nails it at the end calling them an "important family in a world where people are afraid to speak and think". Such a lovely father and daughter doing great things for this world. And thanks you Piers for accomodating this so the world could understand them in the way that their loyal fans know too well.

Having never had a father figure in my life growing up, seeing Jordan’s display as a father and the reflection it had on mikahlia’s attitude towards her father is a magical thing to see. It has affected every part of me in so many ways, to the point I literally lay in bed, day after day, visualising all the ways I could kill myself and not have my children hate me. Didn't seem to empathetic when he made that comment about the Sports Illustrated cover-girl. He had no thought about how that would make her feel, he was too busy wanting to get social points to have even considered it. He has some good insights at times, but lately he's come off to me as playing a grift. The whole online university is the start, that's a grifters path. And the whole crying all the time thing. Reminds me of Glenn Beck back at Fox. But I'm not trying to take away how he's helped you, that's awesome. I'm just calling it like I see it, at this point. I would never try to shut him down, though because he feels a need to weight in on everything under the sun, like he's a polymath (he clearly isn't), it's weakened my opinion of him as some humble character as other describe him as, and comes off to me more narcissistic or ego-driven.

@@samhandwich9992 not sure what comment you’re referring to as didn’t watch this whole interview, so I have no context to comment on that specifically. But, regardless, people are not perfect. Just because someone makes a bad comment doesn’t mean they lack empathy, it means they’re human with their own feelings, thoughts, beliefs, values, and own interpretations/understandings. Do you consider yourself highly empathetic? Have you ever said something crappy one day but perhaps thought differently about it later down the line? Have your thoughts and feelings ever changed with age and additional information from what you used to feel/believe etc? It’s called being an imperfect human. It’s extremely evident how empathetic and understanding he is on the whole. I’m also extremely empathetic and I can easily put myself in another’s shoes and feel their pains, but I too have my own personal feelings, beliefs, values, weaknesses etc, and I will say something crappy in the moment because it conflicts with my values, but then later I’ll hate myself for having said it because I can see how that will have made someone feel. I learn from those, but it’s reality. Again, I can’t comment specifically on what he said in your example, and have no idea how he feels about having said that now or in the future some time. Again, doesn’t mean a lack of empathy. Edit “To add to this too: the truth hurts. While, again, I don’t know the specific comment, your comment about the Sports girl comes across like he just said the truth and it upset her. I’m not sure, but I wanted to add that regardless as it applies to everything.” Also, he has to make a living, but you can clearly see how genuine and caring he is while doing so. Finally, in regards to him crying, if you only knew what this man was feeling inside, you may change your comments. With high levels of care comes high levels of emotion, and when you feel so strongly about the impact you positively project on to another to help them you would naturally be upset and be overwhelmed. I can say I somewhat know, or at least understand, what he’s feeling inside, I feel it too. If more people were like him the world would be a much better place. Critiquing this man in the way you have shows a level of ignorance of this truth. We have soulless people running the world who continue on, yet people like Peterson are shamed and demonised in ways that baffle me because they do far more good than bad, yet people just point out their flaws.

@@zenout3463 The example I was referring to was when he was trying to make a point because a larger girl was on the cover of SI swimsuit edition, and his response was, "NOT BEAUTIFUL". Yeah, the idea that "we're not perfect" is always a convienant excuse in my opinion. I guess I would consider myself more empathetic than Peterson because my first instinct and reaction would not have led me have made such a public response in the manner he did. If he wanted to make a larger statement about changing beauty standards, or the like, he should have instinctively refrained, and broached it another way. I consider how people instinctively react as a better gauge of their overall character. I just can't reliably say how much I think he "truly" cares in the way you present him. There are things he has said and done/does, that lead me question is this for real, or is this a grift, or a bit of both. Part of that has to do with what he said early on in his rise to popularity on Joe Rogan, when they were talking about Social Justice Warriors, (now that term is outta fashion, and replaced with WOKE), he clearly stated at one point that he "learned how to monetize them" The reason I critique a man like him is precisely because of the influence he has, and nothing drives me more nuts than watching people who I think are cults of personality and grifters, take advantage of people's vulnerable mental states, and watch them worship such a person. But in your case, he proved to be helpful, so whatever his true motivation is, I guess I can't knock him or you in that regard. Overall, I don't see him as the greater harm, although, not fond of what appears to me to be more chrisitan conservative viewpoints.

@@samhandwich9992Actually I find it to be the exact opposite. When Jordan made that comment, not only did he encourage her to lose some weight, but he also pointed out that promoting obesity and the unhealthy lifestyle that goes along with it is definitely wrong and shouldn't be done. Moreover, the consequences of telling the truth are never worse than lying, and pointing out that an obese body can't be the standard for beauty doesn't seem like nonsense to me. In fact, putting an obese woman on the front page of a sports and beauty magazine doesn't make sense, as the body itself carries a message that encourages people not to keep in shape and more dangerously to normalize obesity (which btw kills more people than cancer annually). In order to tell the truth and get our point across, we must take into consideration the fact that we might offend somebody, but that should not be a reason to withhold us from telling the truth.

This has to be my favorite interview I didn’t even know much about mikhaila before and little of Mr.Petersons family life but this was very inspiring and moving, the fact that they have been through SO MUCH and still push forward in this hell of a life remarkable and also gut punching because here I am complaining about moderate inconveniences and not only them but there are people ALL across the globe who deal w unimaginable hardships so the audacity of me to complain is funny but I do my best not to but definitely shout out to them!! Also the academy is SUCH A WONDERFUL IDEA!!

A family that goes together through such unimaginable tough times of suffering, decide to get proactive about it instead of just be complaining, getting bitter, blaming the world or blaspheme against God ... a family that keep, develop or find their faith in the Creator through it all and is able to talk about it in the _realest_ possible way without grudges, all that at the same time cracking jokes and laughing so sincerely, is a family worth listening to and learning from.

It's always a pleasure to see Dr. Peterson and his daughter together, but this interview especially ended up being quite the treat with the direction that Piers took by asking questions that allowed them to reflect on their own relationship and how much they have grown together as a family through all of the shared struggles and hardships that have befallen them. God bless and I hope they never stop spreading the wisdom and love that informs every aspect of their work.
