Programmable coolant = WIN. I love it. The position of the tool setter gives you a fighting chance of calibration. If it was in the back corner, you would have to climb inside the machine to calibrate. The tool carousel window is great - so easy to see what is in the machine! The usable workspace in this machine is surprisingly big. At first glance it looks small, but after diving in - it is REALLY nice relative to putting a trunnion on a vertical machine. Loving this thing......

that ball is for calibration of kinematics..every time you work some extra precise part,it would be good to check and recalibrate your machine so you achieve most of the machine precision and your tools in sviwel work the best..i use it on DMG MORI DMU 75 every few days,it uses few minutes only

The probing is a calibration for the machine kinematics. You do this on all 5 axis machines. Expect to do this from time to time especially if you have a little accidentally bump

Once you have used a pendant and realize how less tired your arm and shoulder gets from stretching to reach the panel and how many fewer times you lean into and out of the machine to push buttons, you will never go back. It’s lean and mean baby!!!

I never bought into the P cool, especially when you have through spindle coolant. Using a TSC tool is cheaper than a $1500 option that you have to make sure your post processor works with. As opposed to just turn your coolant on. With some TSC tool holders they can spray coolant from the chuck body itself so you get the benefit of P cool but with the ease of a single M code.
@faxxzc

just fyi, you set the p cool height when you set your tool length. no post processor needed. i think the p cool is neat

so we've had ours for about 2 months now and i've got some time under my belt with it. we have the SS with 50 tools and TSC. didnt go for Pcool because this one has 4 nozzles and you can stagger them over the tool length easily so that each one sprays at a different height and its more than plenty for chip evac that i've seen so far. the Pcool is placed where it is for clearance and having a good shot at your work because probably 90% of the work you'll be doing will be with B tilted positive which means spindle is on the left side, about the only good place to put the pcool. i'm personally not a fan of the toolsetter being where it is, super close to the table, and easy to fuck it up if your hand slips tightening a workholding setup etc, i'd much rather have it on the back side. speaking of posts, make sure to edit yours so that G53 is at X-24. Y0. i broke a 250 dollar harvey lollipop when it changed the tool, went to g53 home and then b tilted to 100*, X-24 is where it should be for tool change if you wanna play it safe. i agree with you on pretty much everything else you said, the machine is pretty awesome! especially for the money. we're super glad we got the SS because simultaneous 5x movement is on the brink of being too slow as is, i would HATE life if we had the base speed model. curious to see what you think after some time using it! oh, p.s. the side door is cool, but i havent found myself using it to load anything, reach from the front/main door is easier at least for me so far than the side. and i havent touched the jog handle yet... haha
@justerpro
@justerpro 4 жыл бұрын
oh, P.P.S. get yourself a metal encased magnet to use to bypass the door lock/sensor. the new 'safety' features are absolutely stupid on this thing. the spindle will not run AT ALL with the door open, regardless of key settings on the side. so if you need to dial in a bore or anything like that, you're SOL unless you bypass the lock.

How accurate is it when you rotate the axis, on the umc750 haas says it can be off by .002 when you go to from b0 tp b90 and if you drill b90 c0 and b90 c180 the holes can be off by .004. Is that the same for the umc500?

Could you talk about the options you did not get? Why not super speed, the fastest spindle etc. I realise the short answer would be because of cost, but why are these things not worth it?
@kristianberumen2062
@kristianberumen2062 4 жыл бұрын
Hello Baldur, I think the upgrades are a really good option when you can justify them. E.g. I have a customer who has to get a piece in 63.8 seconds we tried to do it in a standard machine but It goes more than 63.8 seconds and for a yearly demand them Will need 1.3 or 1.4 machines to comply with It. So when we change the Time study for the part with an SS model we comply with the 63.8 and only 1 mahcine for the project. This was not exactly for a UMC model was for a VF, however, I think its the same principle. In my opinión cost Is not the smartest reason yo choose, Is More like how much money you can make with the shorter investment. In my case was better to invest in a SS model intstead two standard VFs. Greetings from Monterrey México.
