It's 1576. In spite of the peace, France is still in the grips of violence. Two small wars break out when the King wants to grant the governorship of Picardy to Conde.
Major hostilities start when the Duke of Anjou dies. This leaves Henry of Navarre as the only legitimate heir, but the Catholic League, headed by Henry of Guise cannot allow this. The War of the Three Henrys breaks out in 1584. Navarre scores a victory over Joyouse at the Battle of Coutras, However Guise defeats his German allies at the Battles of Vimory and Auneau.
This leaves the Guise all powerful and the monarchy at its weakest point since the start of the war.
