This week our Unimog had to do some kilometers on the bitumen (which it's not used to). After leaving Millstream National Park, we took the highway to Karratha which runs parallel to the train lines. Let's just say the boys got to have a bit of fun! The drive is so much nicer than you would expect with a few passes and rock mounds all around, the Pilbara sunset making everything glow bright red.
We took some time in Karratha and Port Hedland to visit friends, relax a bit and get some work done on the Mog. It was nice to have a couple of days that we didn't have to drive anywhere, and Moggy got to cool down and rest one last time before we head to even hotter weather and terrible roads.
The road from Port Hedland to Broome is one of those stretches you just have to smash out, with not much to see along the way. We took a quick stop at Pardoo Roadhouse, which was devastated by a Cyclone earlier in the year.
Once we got to Broome, we met up with some friends working there that also have a grey expedition truck. Broome is really the gateway to the Kimberley region and has so much to offer that we didn't want to jam pack it all into one episode. You will have to make do with the two spots we show you this week and get ready for next week, because it's gonna be a cracker! If you haven't been to Broome or the Kimberley make sure you stay tuned as you won't want to miss the next episodes!!
Cheers guys!
PS: Please do some research before hitting the tracks, since they can change quickly and might be closed again!

Good to know you have seen some great parts of WA. Shame on your recalcitrant interlopers. Unfortunately some people haven’t developed a sense of civility. Keep enjoying the great moments you are sharing with us.✅👌

We definitely will! It will take more than a couple of grungy Karens to stop us 😁

Sucks when you get someone crowding you in a campsite when its completely unnecessarily. Happened to us once, (long time ago, sometime in the early 80's). My family (2 teenage kids including me at the time) used to go on family camping holidays once a year with another family with 3 kids. Two of them were around mine and my brothers age (about 13 and 15 at the time) plus a little girl about 6 or 7. Picture this. We had all just driven from Perth, WA to just south of Coral Bay (Warroora Station), non stop, both towing trailers in old 4WD's with no AC. It was a 40+ degree day. Both families were HOT, Dusty, Tired and Irritable. We arrived just before dusk (as planned) having just enough time to erect tents and unpack before crashing (sleeping) early. We hadn't seen any campers since going though Coral Bay, heading south into Warroora Station about 15Km looking for the perfect camping spot. The place was empty for miles! As we were about to crash for the night someone pulled up literally right in front of us, blocking one of the 4WD's in (sort off) They were playing really lousy music really loudly. The Exactly the opposite of what my Parents wanted. They also had a yappy little dog that just didn't stop We had our a Great Dane with us so we got him barking for treats (he normally does not bark at all unless provoked. He was normally extremely placid as most Danes are). Kerrie (our friends 6 yo) was quickly instructed to scream as loud and as much as she could. Man that kid had a set of lungs on her! The invaders left within minutes! I'll never forget that experience for the rest of my life! Just thought I'd share.

Hahaha that is awsome! We were considering just starting the truck and letting it idle for a while. We did make sure to let it warm up all the way before we left though 😁

Hey guys, so happy to see you enjoying everything you have worked hard to achieve, has been very interesting watching your videos, I'm involved in the Trains that you watched pass you at the 71km crossing there, that particular train is autonomous, no human onboard, the blue lights above the cab indicate this to us, we have a few trains that pass that location that are still driven by people though. People with no respect parking that close to another person camping is one of my pet hates also, If they have been camping there for 40 years it still does not give them the right to "Campsite Crash", it doesn't matter who you are or where you are from, if someone is already camping there then they need to camp else where. I'm sorry you experienced this and hope its the last time you have to deal with these "Entitled" types of campsite trash. hope they get the KARMA coming to them. have a very Merry Chirstmas guys

Thank you and same to you. Actually one of our friends we visited in Karratha works for Rio Tinto rail and explained it all to us! So cool with the autonomous trains, Patrick being an engineer loves that kind of stuff!

Hi Jele and Patrick. Greetings from the, mostly, nice people of South Australia. On behalf of all Australians, please accept our sincere apologies for the inconsiderate behaviour of those who have to use a generator and choose to do so right beside some other campers. It is difficult to reason with morons ! In 50 years of travel I can count on one hand the number of times this has happened to me. However, when it does it leaves a very bitter taste. Enjoy the rest of your adventure.

That's too close, especially when there's room to spread out. I have some sympathy for a generator. We have one and can't afford more solar as we're retired with limited resources. That said, there's such a thing as generator edequett e.g. limited use and not too late in the evening etc etc
@PatandJele
@PatandJele 7 ай бұрын
We don't mind generators at all, it does go a long way to quickly tell your neighbors you will be turning one on, placing it in a quiet spot and not running it all day long. They just went about as if no one was there, which is what really annoyed us. P.S. We can highly recommend solar in Australia, the prices are getting pretty competitive. If you want some info just shoot us a message 😊

I would have like to see who it was that camped on top of your so we could look out for them and tell them it's a big country and there is no need for it. Very un-Australian.

Yeah it was a rather agressive older couple. What really rubs us the wrong way is them making us feel unwelcome in Australia with comments like "you're working in OUR country" when we are trying to immigrate here permanently...
