I fixed my plant from having yellowing leaves by removing the pups (once they were big enough to survive on their own) and repotting in a clear container to watch future growth. All are doing great.

Thank you for posting this video! I'm struggling with my little pup that was gifted to me. First I was over watering it so I moved it to a terracotta pot, now the leaves are green but cupping. I'll move it to my north facing window and see if it will appreciate that better. It was under grow lights. If this doesn't work out do you think my bathroom is a good place? Right now I have a asparagus fern placed about 3 or 4 feet away from my bathrooms shaded east facing window. Its thriving but would the money plant like that or would it be too humid?

Great video - I saw one of your leaves looks like mine. The middle formed a cup + the sides of that leave are curling in towards the main stem. Unfortunately, you didn't mention that problem. Mine started on the top of my plant + is slowing moving down to the healthy leaves. I have searched the web + no one mentions the problem. My plant is 15" tall + would hate to lose it. It has been cared for the exact same way for 2 years.

Hi there, Thank you so much. I am glad the video was helpful to you. Sometimes black spots could be due to fungal or bacterial growth on the leaves which can spread to other leaves too. Try cleaning the leaves with baking soda solution and keep an eye on other leaves getting affected by the existing infected leaves.

@Homemakr
@Homemakr 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Trena, There could be many other reasons also for leaf dropping other than watering. Make sure that you do not underwater your pilea which can cause leaf curling. Dont forget to check for any pest infestation. Provide enough bright indirect light to your plant and appropriate temperature ( No cold or hot drafts). Make sure that all the essential requirments of the plant at met. Give your plant some time to recover. Still if it does not recover then try repotting it again in fresh sterile soil mix and check for any signs of root rot. Hope your plant gets well soon..👍

I moved my pilea outside to bright shade in humid Georgia in July and started watering them generously every other week. In six weeks they have put out some new leaves on horizontal stems. The older leaves are still drooping but the plants appear to be bouncing back.

My piliea dried completely with in 2 days and the leaves became crispy dry. I watered it regularly but still it happened. Was it due to the heat wave? We get full sunlight for 3-4 morning sunlight. But now I see a few new leaves coming out so hoping I get new plants.
@Homemakr
@Homemakr 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Meena, I am not sure whether your Pilea has been exposed to direct sunlight or not. If you think that your Pilea has been sitting in direct sunlight then it could be one of the reasons for crispy dry leaves. Keep your plant in Indirect bright light only. But if lighting is not the issue, Then it could be Potassium deficiency as I mentioned in the video. Potassium deficiency also causes the leaves to turn crispy dry as if they are sun burnt. Frequent watering can drain away the essential nutrients as well. Therefore, it is important to fertilize your plant once monthly during the growing period using a complete liquid fertilizer. As you mentioned that your plant has started showing new growth, which is great, Fertilize it with a very weak dilution of Liquid fertilizer rich in Potassium.

Root rot is more common and not as lethal as potrayed in the video. Remember to dig out and replace as much soil as you can around the roots before putting it into a new pot if you see rotted roots, then you will be alright. Don't be too careful taking care of them. Plants you treat like babies end up being weak.
@Homemakr
@Homemakr 11 ай бұрын
I am sorry but I don't agree with this. Root Rot is not common if the plant has been taken care of properly. Taking care doesn't mean watering and fertilizing. Not overwatering or overfertilizing also comes in proper care. Some plants need more care than others like calatheas whereas some plants survive better on less maintenance like snake plants or ZZ plants. If root rot is identified at an early stage then it can be saved. But if it's not, then it can kill your plant.
@sylviajimenez6021
@sylviajimenez6021 10 ай бұрын
Wrong, root rot can be lethal to a plant of not taken care at the early stages. Also, you will need to cut the roots that are rotten when repoting, otherwise you're not doing any good to the plant, and it will soon die. I baby my plants and they thrive.

Hi Petra, for curvy or umbrella like leaves, check that all plant requirements are being met such as humidity, water, indirect light etc. Nutrient deficiency or over fertilization can also cause leaf problems.

Hi! My chinese money plant has been happy for the last month but now the bottoms of all the leaves are covered in white spots! How do I fix this, or do I need to cut infected leaves off?
@Homemakr
@Homemakr 2 жыл бұрын
Hi there, I am not sure what kind of white spots are there. If it is something similar to what I have showed in the video, then you dont need to worry much or remove them because those white spots could be just mineral deposits in the leaves as a result of photosynthesis, which will go away by themselves. Just rinse the soil with filtered water to flush away any salt build up in the soil. Slowly the white spots on leaves will also go away. Thank you.

Hi Mounika, Direct sun exposure can cause light and heat stress and thatswhy the plant leaves are curling up to avoid the same. Therefore, provide your pilea with bright indirect light instead of direct light.

I tried to put them in bathroom hoping it will make them fresh again, but it didn't work out. I put indoor, no direct sunlight. Can you please tell me how to fix it? Many thanks
@Homemakr
@Homemakr 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Semara, Soon after repotting plants do tend to go into repotting stress and they take some time to adjust to the new soil conditions which can make your plant look sick. but they recover themselves with time. Also, frequently changing the plant's position, lighting, temperature and humidity needs can also cause change stress in the plants because just like humans plants also get used to the place and other conditions and changing their usual spot disrupts the plants routine. Therefore, I think you should let your plant stay at one spot where it receives enough bright indirect light, optimum room temperature and humidity. Do not overwater. Let your plant rest. Give it some time to recover itself. Hope you did not overfertilized your Pilea which could be another reason for its sadness.

Very good video but I don’t think you talked about leaves that curl backwards to make a domed shape. I always check the soil before I water so I don’t think it’s over or under watered. I’ve also tried lower and higher amounts of light but the problem continues and seems to be getting worse. I fertilize about once a month with miracle gro all purpose plant food. The babies used to have perfectly flat leaves and now they’re curling too. Any ideas?
@Homemakr
@Homemakr Жыл бұрын
Hi Lisa, I would suggest you to check the humidity in the room where you have your Pilea. Temperature changes can also cause the leaves to curl. In too hot conditions, the leaves will curl to avoid water loss whereas, in too cold temperatures also the leaves curl. make sure you check the temperature and humidity as well.

@@Homemakr Thanks so much for your reply! how often to fertilizee during the summer months?
@Homemakr
@Homemakr 11 ай бұрын
It depends how big your plant is and also depends on the growth of your plant. Pileas are not heavy feeders. Once in a month with a very weak dilution should be good to keep them healthy.

Hello! Your video is so helpful but I have one question.. I got a pilea last week and now the bottom leaves are turning yellow.. I am sure that I haven't over watered it cause I've only watered the day I putted it in the new pot..and I have a lot of indoor plants and Ive learned how to water the properly in the way you too describe it..all of the leaves are looking down and turning yellow and even the new ones that were growing turned a bit black on the edge.. Is it because it doesn't get enough light? I have it on my desk at about 2 meters distance from the window.. And because I wasn't sure about the light everyday I moved her close to the window and then at night back at my desk.. Maybe that's what hurt her? I am so sad when my plants are looking sick and not well...

@Argyro Pip, Thank you. I am glad that the video was helpful to you. Sometimes, soon after repotting the plant goes into change stress. Because just like humans, plants also get used to the environment, soil, light and other conditions and it is very common for plant leaves to droop down or show no growth or turn yellow soon after repotting. It takes time for the plant and its roots to adjust to the new soil conditions. Once it gets settled in new environment, you will see your plant recovering. Provide your plant Filtered light which is not too strong and don't fertilize till you see the plant recovering (also you just repotted so no need to fertilize early). Moving plant position frequently will keep plant in stress which will affect its growth. Give it some time. Hopefully, your plant should recover soon.

Yes you can if you want to. They also call it a friendship plant because you can give those new shoots or "pups" to friends. Start the pups in water until you get roots then plant into soil.

Hi, thank you for these tips. I have been searching for solution to control insects on my pilea. It's like green little flies but they don't fly. Just staying around the young leafs and causing the leaf become curly shape, uneven and rough, and dry at the edge. I have my plant for years now but stuck in her growing. I'm so stressed out about it as l feel I'm failing her. Feeling sorry anytime l look at her. Would you please help me? I want to spray it with insect control but pilea doesn't like water on the leaf. Is it true? Thank you so much for your time and care. Much love, from down under. 🌻🌼🌺💛

Hi there, I am so sorry to hear about your Pilea. To get rid of any houseplant pests, neem oil solution is the best. You can buy one from any plant store. Make the solution as mentioned on the bottle and spray each and every part of your plant. Continue doing this until you see no pests infestation on your plant. You can also use hydrogen peroxide solution or baking soda solution. I have made a separate video on both. Your plant will recover soon. 👍🙂

Avoid fertilizing in winters and Autumn as the plant growth reduces. But if you think your Pilea is still showing good amount growth then continue fertilising.

Hi, my problem is that my plant is to tall and is falling down. Should I cut it?
@Homemakr
@Homemakr Жыл бұрын
If your Pilea plant is tall and falling over, there are a few things you can do to help it stand upright: Staking: You can use a stake or bamboo pole to support the plant and help it stand upright. Gently tie the stem to the stake with soft string or plant ties, taking care not to damage the stem or leaves. Repotting: If the plant is top-heavy, it may be a sign that it needs a larger pot. Repotting the plant in a larger container with fresh soil can help support the plant and promote healthy growth. Pruning: If the plant has become too tall and leggy, you can prune it back to encourage bushier growth. Cut back the stem to just above a leaf node, taking care not to remove too much of the plant at once. Adjusting light: If the plant is reaching a light source, you may need to adjust the position of the plant or the light source to encourage more even growth. Watering: Make sure you are watering your Pilea plant correctly. Overwatering or underwatering can cause the plant to weaken and become more prone to falling over. With proper care and attention, your Pilea plant should recover and continue to thrive.

Leaves have many rusted spots Could you please tell me what happen of my leaves
@Homemakr
@Homemakr 2 жыл бұрын
@Ellyn Deng, Hi, Brown spots/Rusted spots could be caused by fungal or bacterial infection which could be due to overwatering/ wet soil for long time, Poor air circulation in the room, Poor lighting and too humid and warm conditions. I am not sure out of all these factors which one applies to your Pilea. Try removing all these factors by providing your plant bright indirect light for at least 5-6 hours daily, Do not Overwater, Make sure the air circulation in the room is good. To remove Brown spots, you can try fungicide from the shop or Neem oil solution or Hydrogen Peroxide solution ( 1 tsp of hydrogen peroxide in 250 ml of water) or Baking soda solution (2 tsp of baking soda + 1tsp of any Oil+ 10-15 drops of dishwash or handwash liquid in 1 litre of water). Remember to patch test on a leaf first before using on the whole plant. Your plant will recover soon. 🙂

Check the plant for any pest infestation thoroughly. If you find any, then use a pesticide to get rid of the pests. You can also repot your plant to check for any signs of root rot.
