That Korean 777 touched down nicely by the look of things. The landing gear damage seems unrelated to the firmness of the landing.

I think the same. At most, it would be like a free fall from less than 10 ft. Surely not enough to destroy a gear axle !!! I doubt that there are many précédents of such a catastrophic mechanical failure … Fortunately harmless.

@@Arkalius80 That was clearly not the intention of the sentence. Clear from the structure, and the choice of verb: 'managed to bring to'. Also, of course, though it doesn't seem to occur to you, that airport is, like all large airfields, flat, and deliberately kept clear of large solid obstacles.
@cxzact9204
@cxzact9204 Жыл бұрын
@@robwilde855 Okay if you want to be technical about it, I believe the intent of the sentence was that the pilots brought the plane to a stop before it was too late. Beyond a certain take off speed the pilots can't initiate a stop because the length of runway needed to safely bring the plane to a standstill is greater than what they had left. I don't see how that sentence could be misconstrued.

That 727's fuel is not! leaking out because of some "thermal expansion". It's just that the tanks were filled to the brink, and when they turned onto the runway, some of it sloshed to the side & flowed out through the overflow valve. (You can see that the "fuel leak" is basically over when they rotate/take off).

I thought it stopped leaking because they started generating lift (i.e. the wing-tips were no longer bent downward, so the fuel was no longer reading the hole). When the plane is stationary, supported by wheels, the wings are the "heavy part bending downward". When they generate lift, the fuselage is "the heavy part going downward" Disclaimer: I have no idea how the overflow valves are constructed, and of course sloshing induced by a turn might have played a role too

I watched as it started defending and thought”Where the hell is going to set down at, waiting for a big explosion! As I drove around a couple blocks I found it, still smoking heavily, blades just spinning! Funny thing was there were any police or fire trucks or anything coming to his aid! He didn’t even look frantic?? It sat for about three weeks before they repaired it and flew it out!
