I’m incredibly grateful to get to do what I love every single day, and today I want to take you along on one of my latest flying adventures.
I currently work as a skydive pilot in Saint Martin; kicking people out of my plane at 10,000 feet over the beautiful Caribbean Sea.
Be sure to subscribe to my new channel, many more videos are on its way!
Seeya!

Why does a sky dive pilot need a parachute but a normal pilot wouldn't have one? Is there somethings im missing here?
@PilotBambi
@PilotBambi 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Matt. In most countries it's a safety regulation for skydive pilots to wear a parachute. We are flying with an open door, and in the worst case there could be a premature opening of a parachute that could wrap around the stabilator. This could lead to a loss of aircraft control, and has unfortunately happened before, causing a fatal accident where all the skydivers jumped and survived, but the pilot didn't because he wasn't wearing a parachute.

Never forget to enjoy every single day of it! 40yrs will blow by in the blink of an eye. Today, I live on my memories of being an African bush pilot. My retirement is not like the guys who spent their careers watching a computer fly their plane, but I promise you I have thousands of stories more than they do after decades in Africa, always making it up as you go. Only time i used an auto pilot was for filling out paperwork in flight, and hand flew every single instrument approach so as never to allow the rusticles to appear. Socially, life in the bush was fabulous. Tucked in a 5 star tented camp falling asleep to lions roaring nearby. Had interesting friends from all over the globe, and close relationships with the beautiful locals. You wont die rich, but you'll die with a smile.

What I really loved about this is the fact that you didn't try to overdo anything for the video, you just did your normal procedures, explained what was going on and told us about your normal day as a pilot. What made the video enjoyable was the fact that YOU enjoy what you are doing. It's like watching a musician that loves to shred vs one that play because they were forced to/in order to gain something socially. I dream of being a pilot. And I WILL achieve it. This video gave me so much more courage to keep aiming for that license to roam the skies.

You know how there are some people that you can just tell in 5 minutes that you would like them a lot and enjoy hanging out- she is definitely one of those people. The way she stuck her tongue out playfully during fueling convinces me that she doesn't take herself too seriously, yet knowing she has pilot license for plane and choppers (I think) tells me she is smart, hard-working, and goal oriented when she needs to be. I discovered this channel 10 minutes ago and I'm obviously a fan already! :)

Back in the 60's I would do that on Sundays with a 182 hauling 3 jumpers to as high as 12,500. I found that 15" MP, close the cowl flaps and a 2g spiral I could get close to 6,000 vsi. From 7200 I could touch down same as jumpers on a 30 sec delay. I was operating off an old WWII practice field and no radio work was required. Discussions with the a/c owner said I was not shock cooling the bird. Did not enjoy cross country but the Sky Diver Driver was fun. W/O a commercial PL I didn't make any money.

I worked as a pilot for a drop zone last summer, it was a great experience and I would build 5-6 hours a day weekdays and 8-10 hours a day on weekends. It's a lot of up and down work and your ears get kind of fatigued by drop 15 or so and it takes about a week to adjust (we'd do 10,000ft drops, up to 20 times a day in a 182). However, it was so much fun! You need to be careful to find a safe drop zone and knowing a thing or two about maintenance would be beneficial, just for determining if an airplane is safe or not, because most look a lot worse than this one does. Also, find a place that doesn't try to make you do stupid stuff in the airplane. My zone limited our bank to 30 degrees and I was told not to ever try racing jumpers down, and honestly, there's no need, a 30 degree bank with about 16" map in gives you 1,500 - 1,700fpm descent without shock cooling and you pull up front just as the next set is getting ready to go. Tons of fun and a great experience, just be picky in who you work for and don't let the boss push you to do something unsafe.

@@matthewjohnson2428 WOW!! Thanks for the info! Thats not bad hours considering becoming a CFII is way harder due to knowledge retention. But that sounds fun and easy, i love flying a c172! I found your channel through Citationmax. What a fun channel....flying AND tropical. Your job search certainly seemed to work out for you. Been interested in flying but I'm too old to become a pilot so THANK YOU for publishing your videos. People like me can have this experience through your channel. This is the first video of yours I have watched and I am looking forward to the rest.

I just found this channel as I'm procrastinating (from studying for my Linear Algebra test tomorrow for my "Professional Pilot" degree at ČVUT, Prague) and maybe how you're young (not meant in a rude way) I feel I can relate to this channel much more than other aviation channels. Also, it seems so easy going and natural. Can't wait to go through all your vids after my exam week ends!

Hi. Saw your interview today. Wish i was young again. I was a skydive pilot here in Canada. C182 & C185. You’re right. Jumpers are fun but crazy. Did a few jumps myself. Word of advice. Since these planes sit outside with partial tanks. Always always keep practiced at forced approaches as its easy to end up with condensation in your fuel because the bladders don’t always lay flat inside the tanks. You can drain fuel and have water still undetected in another low spot!! I had 2 engine failures in my 1st 500 hrs both flying jumpers. Great flying though. Glad i found your site. Happy flying 👍👍🙂
