For Gage's question. Hand mic has a keypad because before the days of ACARS which some bases don't have we can call any department in the company eg: dispatch via the keypad by pushing the numbers that equate to the airport (in this case YCG) and the numbers for the department we want to reach and get in touch with them. (system called AGRIS)

Hello, I used to fly 737s into Castlegar so this brought back memories. On a nice day with the wind favoring runway 15 we would fly down the Arrow lakes, like they did, aim for the Brilliant mountain, hang a right and land on runway 15. I am a bit confused about a few things in this video. The briefing is for runway 33. Contacting local radio they were told the active is runway 15. They then go the extra miles to circle and land on 33 with a 10 knot tailwind. Why? Cheers, Peter
@calvinnickel9995
@calvinnickel9995 Жыл бұрын
You flew in there. You should know. But maybe things have changed. Castlegar is just radio, not tower. The active runway is only if another aircraft is using it and you can use the opposite runway if you are deconflicted with the other aircraft. Brilliant Mountain sticks into the approach for 15. Either you need a very high sink rate, or you have to cut it in on a short final. Not exactly nice for passengers and won’t meet stabilized approach criteria. I’ve landed 15 in my plane.. but our stabilized approach criteria are very lax. I imagine PWA’s was nonexistent back in the day. They had the reputation of being cowboys and were responsible for the last jet airliner crash in Canada until First Air crashed in Resolute Bay. 10 knots on the tail is nothing for a turboprop at this airport.

@colinben10
@colinben10 3 жыл бұрын
@@SSaugaCriss yeah. That would mean Rwy 15 is preferred for wind. Wind is coming out of East south east at 150 degrees. You a pilot like me? It appears not. Winds are reported by ATIS or ATC as the direction wind is coming from via magnetic heading. METARS report true. So winds 270 at 10 knots would mean winds out of west. These guys changed to RWY 33 and landed with a tailwind.
