@14:26 “Just to keep you sharp, because I am sure you don’t do it often, we’ll be landing right into the wind today”. Loll, this comment was bang on, I can totally relate to this. Also, a perfect reply from the pilot.

kakgary Here in Toronto, most of the times they use Rwy 24L,24R,6L,6R,23,05 even when the winds are ofcourse by 70-80 degrees. Although, they have Rwy 33R,33L,15L15R but they barely use it. That’s why the controller said you don’t do it often but u’ll land into wind today rather than a crosswind landing.

Why do both pilots put their hands on the throttle during take-off?
@cohen200
@cohen200 4 жыл бұрын
Mostly for backup, but also dependent on airline SOP the pilot flying will roughly set thrust, then whilst he focuses on directional control, the pilot monitoring will fine-tune the thrust to be exactly where it should be.
@sbuzzkill
@sbuzzkill 3 жыл бұрын
@@cohen200 You’re right, however with FADEC the Q simply has detents for power. No fine tuning necessary.

Why is the Heads Up Display glass so thick?
@TheOreamnos55
@TheOreamnos55 11 ай бұрын
The Dash 8 / Q400 HUD combiners (the piece the pilot looks through, from Flight Dynamics, later part of Collins) were an older optical technology, using a hologram in the center of 2 pieces of glass bonded together (curved surface on the inside for optical reasons). The HUDs you see on something like 787 are newer (also from that part of Collins), with a single (and thus thinner) curved piece of glass.

SOP for sure! However, it can look odd to non-pilots. I recall being passenger on a King Air 100 with a small regional airline, where there was no cockpit door and you could see everything the pilots were doing. A sweet elderly lady remarked to her seat mate during the takeoff roll-out, “How cute! They’re holding hands!” 🤣
@richardkallio3868
@richardkallio3868 3 жыл бұрын
The reason is so that either pilot who sees anything amiss with the gauges during the takeoff roll can initiate a rejected takeoff, without wasting crucial seconds, providing V1 (the point of no return) has not been reached.

I could hear Quebec City ATC speaking French to the pilots of another aircraft. Not a problem for me as I’m bilingual, but I always wonder safety-wise how that affects unilingual English-speaking flight crew travelling in and out of there!
@Haywood-Jablomie

They only speak french with certain aircrafts and only if they know for sure they speak french. For example, Air Transat and Nolinor are 85% bilingual pilots... it's safe to assume they speak french.

2 big surprises for me on this video that differ from the training material I've been reading: Pitch hold at aprox 5 degrees for the climb giving 215 knots; and a flap 35 landing with long runways at Pearson. The normal book climb speed is 185, and 35 flaps are recommended for shorter fields. Interesting. And the old-timer said "with you"....oh god.
